Loud can be intimate too if you huddle closely and focus. Especailly when the food is as good as it is at District Commons. Michelle was an excellent server and couldn't do enough for us, making our viist enjoyable and relaxing. try the pear salad or the beet salad - both are winners. Drinks were excellent!

We had a very nice family lunch and enjoyed the food. Our waiter was very professional and attentive, the food was very good and the ambiance modern. Would recommend.

When I noted that it was a birthday while making the reservation, they wrote "happy birthday" on the honoree's menu & included a lit candle w/ her dessert. Would've given 5 stars for service except that when we made our orders, those who chose more expensively got an approving "Good choice" while those who chose moderately got "OK" -- this is a cliche of "what not to do as a waiter." The pretzel is deservedly acclaimed -- reasonably priced at $2, you get a huge piece of bread with a salted pretzel exterior, sliced into pieces, accompanied by delicious beer mustard butter. Duck is tasty but too much for one person & starts to seem a little stringy. Excellent shrimp & grits; delicious light cake take on Boston cream pie; fine choice of cocktails.
In addition to the noise, a slight negative to the ambiance is that the restaurant seems to attract a lot of under-dressed tourists in shorts and sneakers, which kind of detracts from a $20+ per person meal.

Have been here three times. The inside can be a little loud for my taste although there are a few tables outside too. The service is friendly and professional. I like the vegetable pie and have enjoyed good quality fish too. Perhaps a little expensive but that is largely the location. Will return,

We went here recently with a friend who was visiting from Japan. We wanted to take her someplace that had some classic American dishes, and this modern, chic new restaurant was a good choice. The interior is in a cool, modern style. The menu emphasizes farm fresh ingredients. Two criticisms: It is a bit too loud -- although we had a one of the quieter tables toward the back along the wall -- and the entrees are rather pricey (although you can get a better value out of having a few small plates.

We would definitely go back, especially if in similar circumstances, picking a restaurant for a meal out with friends from abroad, staying in a hotel in Foggy Bottom.
