“A very good hotel in a great location, no free WiFi”
Reviewed October 13, 2012

All the staff were friendly and helpful. My room was very well appointed and clean.
Minor gripe, the cabled broadband connection in my room didn't work. I used the WiFi instead ($9.95+tax/24hrs) which was mostly OK but dropped out several times.
Ideal location for central Washington attractions.

We loved everything about the hotel! The employees were always available to assist with WHATEVER and were always smiling. I have to admit, I also loved the "bonjour" every time I called the front dest too. :-)

We arrived in Washington DC late on a Tuesday night. The Sofitel was our hotel of choice because we were visiting the White House early the next morning. This hotel is located a couple blocks down from the White House making walking there a breeze! The staff was excellent! Anything we wanted or needed they were able to help us with. When we checked out the reservations manager came over and talked to us about our stay offering help with answering questions about where to eat, what to see etc. A 5 star hotel indeed!

Amazing experience for a romantic weekend. Splendid decor and gracious hotel staff...immediately felt like royalty from arrival to departure. The ammenities provided made the experience quite memorable and the location was perfect. Little $$ for breakfast but well worth it...having brunch on the patio added plenty of excitement to start the day! Shall return soon...thanks for an awesome weekend!!

Room Tip: Higher the better, simply for the view!!

We stayed at this Sofitel for several days during an important business project. The pampering we received was unexpected and very much appreciated. I have stayed at other Sofitels in Greece and France and I had expected the same contemporary decor and upscale environment. But this Sofitel is much more sophisticated and luxurious. The entire staff was super professional, polite, and competent. It's a very comfortable hotel. The location is pretty spectacular - one block from the White House and a short walk to the Mall. Alhough I have worked and visited DC for many years, I believe this hotel could be my favorite. I think it might turn out to be yours as well.

Recently stayed at the Sofitel for a 4 night vacation in Washington. This hotel was quite simply amazing. Upon check in we were informed that we had been upgraded to a bigger room with a city view. And because we have stayed at a Sofitel in the past, we were provided with a code to access free internet the week of our stay, which is normally $10 a day. Front desk was extremely helpful, giving us a map of D.C. and letting us know the concierge is there to help us with any and all questions. Our room was great- on the 10th floor. Nice king size bed, and big bathroom. Definitely took advantage of the tub- soaked our tired and sore feet on more than one occasion! Rooms were also cleaned twice a day- once in the AM and once in the PM for turn down service. We never had to ask for towels, shampoo, or anything. Everything was replenished as needed.
For those of you on vacation, this hotel is in a great location- super close to both the McPherson Sq. metro (about one block) and the White House. We were also able to walk to the Smithsonian museums, the Washington Monument, and the Lincoln Monument. The only thing that is too far to walk to is the Capitol. We had to take the metro back from there after a full day of walking.
Can't comment on the food because we never dined at the hotel, however, the bar, restaurant, and outdoor seating areas were always full of people, and looked really nice. Very, very expensive though, so we opted out of dining there.
Coffee is available each morning down in the bar. While we would have rather had a coffee maker in the room, this was not a huge deal for us.
Valet parking was $38 a day, with a $7 tax, so $45 a day. Yes it's expensive but it seems to be standard for any hotel in a major city, and the guys that took care of our car were friendly and courteous and gave us a number to text whenever we wanted our car. Very easy.
The only negatives, for us, would be the lack of a usable refrigerator in the room. When you're staying in the hotel for 5 days, a cold bottle of water, or a place for leftovers or snacks would be ideal. Instead, the Sofitel, like many other hotels, still has the little fridge full of soda, beer, and candy that costs $7 each. Be careful- we were told that if you remove any item for more than 7 seconds you will be charged! I guess they wouldn't have these fridges if people didn't buy the items, but I would have preferred a fridge we could have actually used.
Overall, we loved this hotel and would definitely stay again. Thanks, Sofitel!

The location here is good given its off of 15th and H, meaning a block from White House. The food is great but overpriced. For 2 people it averages $70-80 for bfast! Given that most things are al carte and they love giving more than you asked for and banking on you not checking the detailed breakdown on paper or lifting every plate cover to make sure its right before departing. The room only had one real chair, the other was a tall, stiff office chair that was useless so for bfast for 2, or really anything for two it was a pain.

The turn down service was nothing but Turning on the radio that was already there and leaving 2 warm tiny bottles of Evian water, nothing else. The hallways of the rooms had a musty smell. The remote buttons did not work properly, maybe new battery was needed, but thats not the guest's job to figure out. There was a bottle cap on the floor when we arrived to room, and no it was not ours. For a $300+ a night hotel, you would expect much better and more.
Not going into more details, The French flair and attitude was, bon jour...what you see is what you get! Would not stay there again, unfortunately.

Thank you for taking the time to write about your stay with us. The a la carte breakfast offers guests both in-room options as well as the opportunity to dine in iCi Urban Bistro. Each breakfast includes a fresh made mini fruit smoothie as well as our viennoisseries, the French bread selection, free of charge. There is a delivery charge for In-room-dining, which is perhaps what you are referring to as 'extra'. I apologize you were not comfortable with the seating arrangement in the room, perhaps next time just let someone know and we can certainly accommodate something better suited to your needs. Our nightly turn down service is provided in each room to include drawn curtains, a turned down bed, dimmed lights, classical music and complimentary Evian water. Should you have more specific requests, we would be happy to attend to your needs! I hope to welcome you back for a true Sofitel experience.
