The Sofitel is located just a few blocks from the White House in a very nice part of the city. This is a french chain with European sensibilities. The front desk staff was efficient, courteous, and professional. The lobby is not large but is warm with a lounge and restaurant accessible at the entry and the front desk and the primary ballroom located further inside, just passed the elevators. The elevators were fast with no long waits. The hallways were nicely lit and simply decorated.
The room on the ninth floor was quiet and appeared to be towards the rear of the hotel. No view to speak of but good light. The room was a good size for a city hotel and had a lot of wood accents. The bed was against a wood panelled wall with modern looking LED reading lights built into the wall as well as an embedded piece of art. The desk was glass with a network connection built in and two power outlets. A network cable is provided for convenience. I opted to use the wireless internet which is $9.95 per day. For some reason the two outlets on the desk did not work in my room and I had to plug my chargers into other wall outlets. Not so convenient, but they were not hard to find, so was not a big issue. There is a pillow menu which I didn't use. The normal pillows are very soft but comfortable. The television was a reasonable sized flat screen and there is a Bose clock radio that sounds great on the bedside table. There was good lighting in the room so it did not feel dark
The closet was situated facing you as you enter the room. The bedroom area was to the left and bath to the right. The closet had a full mirror face which can be nice when trying to dress for an evening event. The closet did not have a lot of hanging space but was very well organized with sufficient space for a few days worth of clothing. There was a safe in the closet that could handle a laptop and other items comfortably as well as a small ironing board and iron.
The bathroom was not huge but made very nice use of the space with high quality fixtures, marble tiles and a separate tub and glass shower. A Frette robe was hanging in the bathroom as well.
The meeting rooms were small but elegant and suitable for an executive retreat or small to mid sized board meeting. Food quality was excellent as was the service provided by the catering staff. Recommend this hotel for a small business event or a nice weekend stay in DC.
