“Great boutique hotel in DC. Close to everything”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2012

The Sofitel is located just a few blocks from the White House in a very nice part of the city. This is a french chain with European sensibilities. The front desk staff was efficient, courteous, and professional. The lobby is not large but is warm with a lounge and restaurant accessible at the entry and the front desk and the primary ballroom located further inside, just passed the elevators. The elevators were fast with no long waits. The hallways were nicely lit and simply decorated.

The room on the ninth floor was quiet and appeared to be towards the rear of the hotel. No view to speak of but good light. The room was a good size for a city hotel and had a lot of wood accents. The bed was against a wood panelled wall with modern looking LED reading lights built into the wall as well as an embedded piece of art. The desk was glass with a network connection built in and two power outlets. A network cable is provided for convenience. I opted to use the wireless internet which is $9.95 per day. For some reason the two outlets on the desk did not work in my room and I had to plug my chargers into other wall outlets. Not so convenient, but they were not hard to find, so was not a big issue. There is a pillow menu which I didn't use. The normal pillows are very soft but comfortable. The television was a reasonable sized flat screen and there is a Bose clock radio that sounds great on the bedside table. There was good lighting in the room so it did not feel dark

The closet was situated facing you as you enter the room. The bedroom area was to the left and bath to the right. The closet had a full mirror face which can be nice when trying to dress for an evening event. The closet did not have a lot of hanging space but was very well organized with sufficient space for a few days worth of clothing. There was a safe in the closet that could handle a laptop and other items comfortably as well as a small ironing board and iron.

The bathroom was not huge but made very nice use of the space with high quality fixtures, marble tiles and a separate tub and glass shower. A Frette robe was hanging in the bathroom as well.

The meeting rooms were small but elegant and suitable for an executive retreat or small to mid sized board meeting. Food quality was excellent as was the service provided by the catering staff. Recommend this hotel for a small business event or a nice weekend stay in DC.

Good room, 10th floor king. Good size bathroom. Thanks especially to Anna (front desk) and Germaine and Cynthia (concierge) who helped make our stay so enjoyable. Bar and restaurant well worth visiting. One word of advice - when considering a "hop on hop off" bus tour book with Old Town Trolleys and NOT Open Top Sightseeing (big red buses). The former has great guides and arrive on time, the latter have inaudible, uninformative audio equipment and leave you waiting an hour or more for buses on different routes.

Our stay at the Sofitel was wonderful from the moment we stepped through the front door. We arrived at noon and were immediately upgraded so that we could have a room without a wait. Our clean, beautifully appointed room was on the tenth floor, and while a little small, met our needs for the long weekend. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom and walk-in shower roomy, and the nightly turn down service with bottles of Evian much appreciated after long hot DC days. What really makes this hotel a standout is the caring, friendly staff- they really seem to enjoy providing great service! The delicious breakfasts were made even better by Freedi's outstanding service. And after late nights, we were always warmly greeted by director of rooms Joseph Colina. The hotel's location is convenient to just about everything. We flew into Baltimore and took the MARC to Union Station. It was just a short, ten dollar cab ride to the Sofitel. Would we stay at the Sofitel again? Absolutely! Can't wait to return!

A tip for visitors to Washington. The heavily-hyped red ho-on,hop-off bus is poor value - you spend ages waiting for one to come and then more ages sitting in stationary traffic. The Old Town Trolley bus is smaller, nippier, and more frequent, or consider using the ranks of Borisbikes and the extensive cycleways.
Another tip for visitors. Base your stay at the Hotel Sofitel, a wonderful place only a couple of blocks from the White House. The welcome you receive and the quality of the service is truly excellent. our large quiet room on the 11th floor lacked only a view - unless you like looking at the wall of the office block across the alley. But then again, you don't come to Washington to sit looking out of a hotel room. The beds are blissfully comfortable, the bathroom has allyou could need, and everything is clean and in good order. We had breakfast and a couple of meals in the Ici bistro, and although the menu is not extensive, the quality and imaginanative presentation is first class.
People are the making of any business, and Hotel Sofitel is no different. From Natalie, through the concierges Germain and Jean Paul, to our waiter Mohamed, and all the others who actually speak to you and make you feel as though they are genuinely interested in making you stay perfect. Wonderful staff, making a wonderful hotel.

I was here on business recently. The service was excellent--from the woman who welcomed me to the concierge that gave me an umbrella because of overcast skies to the person who delivered my breakfast. The rooms are well appointed and the bathroom is great--very large with a separate tub and shower. The shower has a rain shower head and the toiletries were L'Occitane. The rooms were a little on the small side and you have to pay for wifi--in a nice hotel I think that comes off as a cheap step--otherwise I would have given 5 stars. The location is great--very close to the White House and the monuments and near to some very good restaurants. I would stay here again.

I stayed at this hotel or a week. Could not have done a better choice. Staff very attentious, place convenient and just a few steps from major attractions in Washington.
The food at the restaurant and at the bar is very good!
