Found this place by chance as it was a block from the metro station during a frantic day of site seeing.
Since a lot of the restaurants in Washington are pricy we needed to give the budget a break but were not ready for hamburgers. This appears to be a chain.
They feature a selection of chicken, steak or vegetables on a sandwich, salad or plate with sides ordered as you push your tray down the line. You can selection different toppings like Spanish Eggplant, baba Ghannoush, cous-cous, feta cheese, etc.
The servers were not surly, but they were not very helpful in deciding what each dish was. I’m not sure if they knew what was in what they were pointing to leaving us to figure it out.
You get a selection of sauces to put on your creation, and we both had the very spicy Zhug sauce. I highly recommend this as it was hot in flavor and well as temperature.
The chicken and steak were done perfectly with many tasty spices. The eggplant, cucumber salad and baba-ghannoush were very flavorful. I’ve grown to expect blandness in these dishes other places, but Roti did it right.
