“Never again”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2013

Sadly, our experience was not as good as many others. Based on positive reviews, a delicious looking online kosher menu (including children's menu), we reserved for a group from a Jewish Community Day School group at Distrikt Bistro.

Imagine our surprise when we arrived and were greeted angrily by the restaurant staff and told that we were expected to pay $39 per person (including for 11 children) and could not order from the menu?

After over half an hour of negotiations we departed for the only other restaurant in DC that met our Kashrut needs.

“Kosher with Linen Napkins”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2013

This is the only upscale Kosher dining experience in DC - wine and linen napkins style - despite being in a community center. The menu has Mediterranean flare and the soups are amazing. They are also open for lunch.

“Commendable kosher restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2012

My wife and I have eaten here several times, usually before attending a performance at the DCJCC's theater. The food is quite good but expensive, particularly for a casual setting. However, it compares favorably with kosher restaurants we have visited in other cities. We especially recommend the eggplant appetizer and the lamb chops (pricey but delicious). Salads are also tasty. Because the restaurant sometimes has only one waiter, service can be slow, so it is worth arriving on the early side (e.g., 6 P.M., for dinner).

“5 Star Kosher”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2012

One of the few kosher restaurants that can realistically stand up to the best of the best. On the kosher scale, 5 stars, 4 against the complete spectrum of restaurants. Beef is well done, as expected, but somehow not dried out. The seems to make a real effort on the fresh produce, and it shows. If you're near Georgetown and want or need full blown kosher, you won't be disappointed in Distrikt.

“Decent, but nothing special”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2012

I wasn't overly impressed with this restaurant. Granted, there are surprisingly very few Glatt kosher places to eat in Washington, but for the price we expected something better. The atmosphere is below average as it is basically a few tables and chairs in the corner of the Jewish Community Center's basement lobby. If you didn't look carefully enough you might mistake it for a sitting or reading area. (Keep in mind that you need to go through a brief security checkpoint before entering.)

The service was OK and our waiter was friendly and helpful. However, the restaurant's computer system was apparently down on the evening we visited and we were given a handwritten bill, with the only choice of paying in cash or leaving a credit card number to charge via email, which we did not want to do.

As for the food, it was pretty good. We both ordered the farfalle grilled chicken which was tasty, but the portion was small for a dinner meal. They were out of almost all of the desserts so we settled on nothing, which was disappointing because there was no side dish served with the entree - you just get the main dish and no other food with it like a salad or fries, unless you want to pay extra. We did however order an appetizer of tortilla chips with guacamole before the meal which was delicious.

The price was pretty expensive considering the amount of food and the atmosphere. I'd probably come back here if there was nowhere else to eat, but unfortunately I wouldn't make it a first choice.
