We stayed for six nights in this downtown hotel. Its a gem (not really "hidden") in downtown D.C.. Its a mere 2 1/2 blocks from the White House -- which is great for tours there, since you must leave almost everything behind. A Metro station (McPherson Sq.) is across the street on lines which will take you directly to the Smithsonian museums on the Mall or the Capitol.

Although our room faced busy 14th Street, we were high enuff that noise was not an issue. The room was comfortable and clean, and well-appointed with no signs of wear. Most importantly, the elevators were quick and in sufficient numbers that there was little waiting.

Check in was a breeze and the staff was always helpful and friendly. Free cookies in the afternoon in the lobby was a nice touch.

Their on-site restaurant is a bit pricy, but there are other distinctive places just a block or two away. To save money on meals, there's a fine Five Guys Burgers on the corner next to the Metro station, where we dined frequently.

BTW, I advise against bringing a car into downtown D.C. Its unnecessary and garages are expensive. When we wanted to go further afield, we taxied or rented a car at Union Station. If you have one, stay in the suburbs, near a Metro station.

Very nice hotel directly accross from Metro. Walking distance to White House, some resturants, and CVS is right down the street. Breakfast was wonderful! We had dinner there and it was pretty good too. I only wish the beds had been queen size. We have already booked again to go back in November!

The hotel is located just steps from the Metro station. It is possible to hop the blue line train at Reagan Int'l and be at the front door of the hotel in about twenty minutes. From this location we walked the length of the mall to the Capitol and and the monuments and White House. The hotel is tastefully decorated, our room was spacious and very clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful when needed and efficiently retained and retrieved our bags after check-out. Our rate included breakfast which had made to order hot dishes as well as fresh fruits and cereals, breads, etc. The restaurant staff was cheery and quick with the coffee each morning. I had not a single complaint after a three night stay. Due to the great location we didn't need a car so the parking rate was not a peeve.

Stayed for two nights in June 2010.

Really struggled to find a reasonably priced hotel in DC, in a good spot for sight seeing. Until I found the Hilton Garden Inn that is. Really great location walking distance to The White House and across the street from a metro station.

Caught the train into DC from New York and arrived around 11am. Cab from Union Station cost less than USD $20. The reception are was very busy when we arrived but I think this was more because the restaurant and concierge areas were spilling into the compact lobby. Our room wasn't ready, as we expected it wouldn't be but were able to leave all our luggage behind while we went and explored for the day.

Getting back to the hotel in the afternoon we collected our room keys and settled in after walking all around DC for the day. The room was surprisingly big and well maintained. Reasonably up to date decor and big comfortable bed. The kitchenette was handy and there are ice and drink machines on each floor. Only negative about the room was the air conditioning which was very noisy. Unfortunately in the summer heat we couldn't have it switched off for long.

There's a coin operated laundry on the second floor which we really found fantastic, having been travelling for a few weeks and constantly running out of clean clothes.

Everything about the hotel was easy and the staff were all very friendly. Hotels in DC are expensive but the Garden Inn wasn't too bad and I'd stay again.

Location, location, location! Walking distance to most popular sites. Nice freebie mini toiletries (Neutrogena). Freebie afternoon cookies are yummy. A.C. keeps the room nice & cool (but loud!!!), and you can set the temp right in the room. The concierge was polite, but not very informative. We found that we kept getting partial directions. Then we would would have to ask another person half way to our destination. Hard to find any sports bar in D.C. (Sorry, I know this is a political city, but we like to watch a football game on the weekend). The room is very CLEAN! That is my favorite positive part! The breakfast was yucky - and expensive. How do you mess up something as simple as breakfast!?! Get your breakfast at Cosi next door. Much cheaper & better. The blanket was too hot (even with the a/c cranked way down). I love that there is a microwave & fridge in the room. Great for those resturaunt leftovers. In order to get the elevator to stop on your floor, you have to swipe your card on your floor. Annoying, but I guess it's a good safety measure. Overall, pretty good.........
