“An excellent site not to be missed!”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

We consider ourselves very fortunate to have visited this imposing church near the university with some unique wall paintings! We also enjoyed the train ride there and got to see a part of Washington DC we wouldn't otherwise get the chance to see!

“On Big Church”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

The Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is (I believe) the largest Catholic church in the US. And, after The Vatican and the Duomo in Milan one of the largest in the world. The view of DC from it is lovely

“Catholic mecca on par with Europe”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

The place is awe-inspiring and a tremendous example of modern church art and heritage. As a Catholic it will inspire you, as a non-Catholic you will get insight into the Catholic culture.

“Worth visiting”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

We took the subway to visit this basilica (take the red line and stop at Brookland CUA station) which was a few stops north of Union Station. The actual stop is in the Catholic University area, and a 10 minute walk uphill leads you to this huge and beautiful piece of architecture. Follow the gold tipped spire. We attended the midday mass which had a wonderful choir accompaniment. Before and after the mass, we toured the small chapels and the crypt at the lower level. They have a cafeteria below which served good and reasonably priced food. It was definitely worth the trip.

“Beautiful Mass in the Crypt Church.”
Reviewed July 28, 2013 via mobile

I went to a beautiful Mass in the Crypt Church. It was eerily beautiful. The entire cathedral is spectacular and I love how they honor Mary throughout. Since this is a Shrine of the Immaculate Conception it only makes sense. I thought it was interesting to see Mary portrayed from different countries in both the Western and Eastern Rites of the Church. I look forward to attending a few more Masses here and highly recommend it to people, both Catholic and non-Catholic.
