“Awesome”
Reviewed November 14, 2011

I went with an hour's visit in mind. Wound up staying 4 hours!
There was so much to see and much to learn. Loved the gift store. It was interesting to see the many representations of Mary at the chapels. The mosiac art work was amazing!

“Lovely”
Reviewed November 3, 2011

Went to 12.00 Sunday mass with the choir. It was lovely. Spend a couple of hours underground in the crypts and the giftshop. A memorable experience. Kids enjoyed it too

“Jaw dropping beauty”
Reviewed November 2, 2011

Don't miss this when you go to DC. From the red line Metro take Catholic University - Brookline exit (CUA Brookline) and you see the spire when you get to ground level. I was absolutely unprepared for the sheer beauty of this place. They even have a cafeteria onsite.

“Spectacular!!”
Reviewed October 31, 2011

The Basilica is a bit of a jaunt from the main downtown area of DC, but is easily accessible via the Metro. Be prepared to walk about 1 mile from the Metro to the Shrine. The building is absolutely beautiful in every respect. The outside looks like the grand old churches in Europe and the inside doesn't disappoint with 2 levels of beauty. The main church on the first floor has fabulous mosaic art on the ceilings, stained glass windows, and is majestic in every way. The lower level or crypt has multiple chapels paying homage to various saints and cultures. Each is more beautiful than the last and it would be very difficult to pick the one that is most lovely. This is a church that all Americans should be proud of regardless of their faith simply because of its beauty.

“A Heavenly Experience”
Reviewed October 31, 2011

We stopped at the Shrine to attend Sunday Services but the Shrine is so big and beautiful and the artwork is both so inspiring and beautiful that we ended up spending close to 3 hours. The architecture and artwork are just first-rate and the bookstore and the gift shop provide a vast array of interesting educational and inspirational resources. The Service was absolutely heavenly, the organ and the visiting boy's choir angelic. A must stop in DC.
