The time to visit here is weekends when the outdoor stalls are open. They offer a wonderful variety of goods for sale. The inside market is small and is limited to food shops and several eateries.

Plenty of stalls with local artists selling their artwork and jewellery. Also fruit stalls. Hand made hat stalls and my favourite was handmade African skirts and tops made with really good quality fabrics. Easily accessed by metro. Excellent restaurants nearby just passed the metro. We loved it so much we went twice during our visit to DC.
Union Market or Eastern Market which to visit? My answer with foodies in tow is both. They are different but both are wonderful. The Eastern Market has been around for 130 years. After a fire a number of years ago it has come back in a big way adding a large ever changing outdoor section. This is the place to find rabbit and venison at reasonable prices and to develop friendships with long time vendors.
Eastern market is a great place to visit on the weekend. Lots of stalls with hand crafted products, fresh local produce etc. During the week, the indoor market is great foor shoppjng food (some of the best butchers I know), though on the expensive side).
We saw an online article about this place and thought it would be interesting to visit. It is quite small, with very few vendors. The vendors had nice things, but we were through the entire place in less than 30 minutes. We were disappointed.
We visited the market several times. They have everything from seafood to Italian. We enjoyed all of the desserts provided and the crab cake benedict for breakfast. The outside of the market on Saturdays are excellent to explore. There are several artists, gourmet foods and a variety of talents. Easy to get to and it is fun to learn of the historical aspect.
