I love the Eastern Market and have to admit that I do not go often enough. A list of what I love:
1. Samples of fruit, all so tasty and enticing!
2. Walnut brownies from the bakery inside the market
3. Random jewelry and decor finds
4. Scarf galore
5. Bargaining for lower price-though really not that much lower
6. Jostling for a place in line at Market Lunch
All in all, it's a beautiful way to while away a nice sunny morning/afternoon.

Crabcake sandwiches at the lunch counter utterly delicious at this no nonsense counter. Hugely popular with locals especially at weekends.

So glad I remembered to stop by after my visit to the LOC and Capital. It's a short walk away in a beautiful neighborhood. There are tons of crafts, vintage finds, and fresh foods. The people are nice and it's great for people watching.

I whittled away a few hours out of my Sunday in DC's Eastern Market this past weekend, taking in the sights, sounds, and tastes of the market. Its well stocked with food for the farmer's market shoppers or for someone who wants a nibble. The craftsmen were all nice and selling wares that they actually seemed to have made themselves (no re-sellers) and the market itself was huge. It has a flea market on Sundays as well but I didn't check that out. If you're looking for a quirky handmade gift or some fresh food its a great place to visit as a an out-of-towner and a great place to relax and people watch if you can pull up a table in a local coffee shop or restaurant that overlooks the market.

Eastern Market on Capitol Hill is a wonderful experience for many senses!

Indoor area supports permanent vendors with fresh fruits, vegetables, luscious fresh meats and even the obligatory overpriced cupcake stand! Clean bathrooms with many seats for the ladies. Sandwich, breakfast and lunch stalls all available inside.

Outside there is plenty of picnic table seating under cover in case of rain and approximately a full city block of interesting private temporary vendors. Unlike the Georgetown Flea Market, prices are fair for the homemade goods (Georgetown's flea market offered used goods at exorbitant prices!!!)

We only did about half of the stalls outside because my husband was antsy to move on. I am not a great shopper but found the variety really interesting and would like to have stayed longer. Many food vendors outside as well and they were not typical hotdog/hamburger trucks. We noticed soft pretzles, New Orleans fare, indian cuisine, tons of fresh fruits and veges - most booth offering tastes of everything - bbq, fresh made donuts (on the premises!) among others.

I will find a girlfriend to return with me who will be happy to stroll a little longer.

Great for ladies, couples, families, shoppers, browsers, vegans, anyone looking for a feast for the senses.
