If you're in DC over the weekend, you MUST go to the Eastern Market's Weekend Outdoor Market! Rows and rows of vendors sell arts and crafts, odds and ends, and fresh produce and baked goods. I really do think that there is something for everyone.
There really is no excuse not to go. There's even an Eastern Market Metro Station - both the blue and orange lines stop here - and the market itself is only a block or so away.

We were in DC for a long weekend mid-september. We used the metro to get to Eastern Market. The farmers market is only a couple of blocks from the metro - an easy walk.
There was a wide variety of items for sale at Eastern Market.
Outside, there was fresh veggies, fruit, honey, jam, etc. In another section, there were all kinds of crafts, although I found most items in this area to be rather expensive.
Inside, fresh fish and all kinds of meats, as well as more veggies, fruit and lots of yummy baked goods.

Was a fun time, just don't expect great deals as the prices are pretty high. Parking is a bit of a problem but you can find it on adjoining streets.

Alot of unique items, especially jewelry. They also have fresh and prepared foods. Definitely don't miss it.

Fun to spend a temperate day walking and checking out the interesting items for sale at DC's Eastern Market. Conversed with the gentleman at a scent booth about his Oud oil. Smelled many and finally chose a small roll on bottle for $20. The after scent smells much like patchouli, not so much like a solid, classic Oud. Oh well, lesson learned.

BEST: Variety of meats and cheeses. Hand-crafted jewelry. Flea market finds.
LEAST: Lack of parking. Too many lame made in China jewelry booths.

The day we went it seemed like there weren't as many booths as in previous visits. We overheard someone say that there was a festival at Adams Morgan that weekend so maybe some of the usual vendors were there instead of at the Eastern Market.

I picked up a nice leather messenger bag for $15 and the Uncle Chips cookies were tasty.
