We just returned from a 5 night stay at the Fairmont Georgetown. Just a little background info -we are a family of 3, I worked as a chef for 20 years and my wife in the front of house for 20 years and our 14 year old son.

We came to celebrate my wife's 40th birthday and we had a great time. The staff were very attentive and when they found out it was my wife's 40th, there were some very nice extra touches added to the stay. We had dinner at Juniper the first night which was a lovely meal and fairly priced. It was a great way to relax after a long drive into the city.

Our room was very clean, large and a pleasure to hang out in. The housekeepers were amazing. Every night I felt like we were walking into a hotel room for the first night every night.

Also-join the presidents club before you go and you get free wifi and complimentary paper delivered to your room each morning.

A couple of tips. I am sure you have read not to drive in DC. Well don't. We drove in, parked the car and drove out. On that note, one of my only complaints would be the cost of the valet parking-$45 seems steep even for DC where parking is a headache. The next night we moved the car a couple blocks east on M street to the colonial parking lot. $22 a night seemed much more palatable. We took cabs to the Mall-about 8-10 bucks each way depending on traffic and how far you went. I would avoid the van cabs unless you need them. For some ridiculous reason, the vans are allowed to add a buck for each extra person. We started to refuse them because that bothered me in principle.

Eating in DC is a pleasure. In Georgetown around the Fairmont, there are a tonne of choices, Founding Farmers was great, Good Stuff Eatery just opened in Georgetown (get the toasted marshmallow shake). One of the best nights was a happy hour crawl up and down M street. Everywhere pretty much does happy hour on week nights, 4-7 seem to be the standard hours. 5 buck margaritas, 3 buck beers, 1/2 price house wine all washed down buck a piece oysters, crispy short rib nachos, deepfried calamari and so on. A few highlights included Tacklebox, Bandolero, Jpauls to name a few.

Food trucks around the Mall were a little dear for what we got but a little more investigation will serve you well as I think there are some amazing ones in DC, we just chose poorly.

The Fairmont was perfectly situated, the courtyard was amazing as was the lobby and lobby bar. I found the $5 a person charge for the pool off putting and a little 'nickle and dimey' for a great establishment, especially if they charge premium rates for the room and advertise the pool on the website. Little thing but it wasn't that kind of vacation for us anyhow. There is a starbucks across the street which I used once before I found a bakery called Bread and Chocolate on M and 23rd. We stopped there for coffees and pastries most mornings and it is highly recommended.

We loved DC, loved the people, loved the sights and can't wait to return...when we do, we will stay at the Fairmont again definitely.

Thank you so much d e! We greatly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. You have a lot of good tips included in your review! The biggest one that we’d like to highlight is about joining Fairmont President’s Club. It’s easy, free and gives you complimentary Internet access at every Fairmont around the globe.

Happy belated birthday to your wife! We’re so glad the staff was able to make the stay more memorable. Maybe you should make the trip an annual event ;-)

Thank you again for taking the time to write a review and giving such a thorough account of your visit. Please let us know next time you’re coming so we can thank you in person!

We stayed here for 5 nights and loved every minute of it. The room was a really good size, with nice fittings and fixtures and a fabulous bed! We didn't eat in the restaurant but the lobby and other areas were all very nice. The staff, even those we only would occasionally bump into in the lift/lobby were always cheerful and friendly, and not in that sometimes false, superficial way. From the hotel its not far to walk to any of the many tourist attractions, plus its only a few minutes' walk to Georgetown. Just be sure to avoid eating at the Blue Duck Tavern across the road, which isn't anything to do with the hotel, I'm just saying.

And, in the room you get proper mugs and a kettle for your morning brew - not those dopey pod affairs. All in all we couldn't have been happier.

My family recently stayed in a corner suite (4 of us) at the Fairmont whilst on holiday from Australia and found that the staff were extremely helpful. We arrived quite late in the day and they made sure we had everything we needed. My daughter got quite sick and there was so helpful. The location was also great - close to resturants in Georgetown, the Subway and walking distance to the LIncoln Memorial - we actually walked down to watch the sunrise early which I would recommend!

Thank you kindly for the review Gina K! We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.

We’re sorry to hear that your daughter got sick – but very glad that our staff was able to help your family during that time. We agree that the location can’t be beat and commend you for walking down to the Lincoln Memorial to catch the sunrise. It’s one of the most beautiful times of day in the city.

Thanks again and we hope to have the opportunity to host you in the future,

An excellent stay in a beautiful classy hotel. Treated very well and special treatment as it was our anniversary. Close to the gorgeous area of Georgetown, the only area to sty in Washington- the hotel interior was beautiful and the room was gorgeous with the best shower I've encountered in a hotel before. Staff were very obliging and a really relaxed and glorious way to end our USA experience. Didn't eat breakfast so can't comment but everything else was of a very high standard.

Over the past month, I have stayed at the elegant and very friendly Fairmont Washington during several weeks meetings at my nearby company headquarters. For one visit I also brought my family, and the children love it. The ideal location backing up against the lovely Rock Creek Park makes for a quiet and convenient setting in the nation's capital for evening runs and walks after work. Coming back to The Fairmont after a long day, the room is always immaculately attended to by the hotel's dedicated team. And that leads to my final point of endorsement. What really places The Fairmont Washington in a special tier of its own is the First Class Serivce provided by the hotel's stellar team of professionals. I have traveled throughout the globe, and American hotels typically do not compete with the high levels of professional customer service emphasized by so many hotels of other countries. But of course, The Fairmont is Canadian! Well done, team, and I look forward to see you all again soon. -Allen F.

Overall:
We (family of 4 with 2 young kids) stayed for four days in a beautiful 7th floor suite. Perfect spot for a family vacation in DC.

Pro's:
- First class service from check in to check out...literally every staff member. Special mention to the check in team that provided us with a wonderful room option and the front door staff that greeted us daily by name.
- Beautiful rooms (we had the Magnolia Suite which was perfect) and fantastic amenities plus wonderful maid service.
- Amazing location...a pleasant walk to the National Mall, across the bridge to G'town.
- Great food and drink service...we really loved an after dinner dessert for the kids and port for us in the lobby bar or in the outdoor garden.

Con's:
- Only one which is that the main gym and pool is an additional charge unless you are Fairmont Platinum or on the Gold floor. We were not. There is a very basic (free of charge) gym otherwise.

The Verdict:
We would return in a heartbeat. Aside from being a fantastic property in a great location, the personal service made this a 5 star experience. The only downside is that I have set my kids expectations too high for future trips...as my 5 year old said to me as we left, "are all hotels like this Dad?"

Everything you mention is spot on. Needless to say, our favorite part is that your 5 year old asked if all hotels were like this! What a great way to end.

We enjoyed our four nights at the Fairmont very much. Having arrived from Australia after 21 hours flying time it was the perfect spot to recoup before we embarked on our sight seeing.
Our deluxe room overlooking the picturesque garden courtyard was very comfortable and the daily house keeping was very good.
The location was quite good as we enjoyed being close to the charming Georgetown village and we were reasonably close to the main tourist destinations. The concierge was very helpful.
Our check-in was smooth and we were told that our package including breakfast did not require a gratuity at breakfast. Breakfast was a very nice buffet to which we helped ourselves and the staff only had to bring us drinks because it was set up that way. A couple of the serving staff had attitude! I wish we had been given the right advice as we are keen to follow whatever the local custom is and not endure rudeness.
Breakfast was the only downside. There seemed to be confusion, 2 mornings out of 4 we were asked to sign the cheque, despite us reminding the staff we had the breakfast package. Even the hostess showing us the table was not sure about whether we should sign or not; its not surprising that we were told some guests with this package refused to sign.
Two days after our departure we were debited an extra $48.60 without any explanation. After we followed this up by email, we received an apology because the charge was indeed a system mistake!
Pity about the breakfast package glitch because the rest our our experience was excellent.
