“Just Great!”
Reviewed June 2, 2010

We stayed here while attending a conference and gala across the street at the Hilton.

This hotel has got lots of character, a great restaurant, and is centrally located near a lot of other restaurants and stores nearby. Best of all, it was also a good deal cheaper than its neighboring hotels. Our room was about twice as large as most other standard sized rooms I've stayed in as it had a whole extra sitting room! (My guess is that it's because it is such an old building they would not have had any other use for that space?). I particularly liked that they had real and elegant furniture rather than the standard hotel motif in the room.

The only negative is that parking was so expensive... but this may be par for the course in DC.

Altogther, go and enjoy yourselves!

Dear McJasper99,

We are so pleased you were able to stay with us and discover the benefits of staying in a historic building. Our property was originally a luxury apartment building, which is why our rooms are like no other hotel properties in the city. We were recently renovated, so we are able to offer the best of both worlds, space and comfort. Thank you for taking the time to write your comments and we look forward to serving you in the near future.

Warm Regards,
Management

After looking forward to staying in a non-chain hotel and reading about the history of this building I was looking forward to our stay. The bathroom was very small- we were unable to open the door more than 1/2 way due to hitting the toilet, so you had to go in, move to the right and then shut the door to sit on the toilet. I am an average size women and it was a tight squeeze. My husband is a fit 6'4" and it was all most impossible. There were no towel bars except in the shower. The refrigerator was warm and I had to defrost it the first night. I went to the front desk and asked for recommendations for a night time tour of the city and was handed 2 brouchures. When asked if they could help with a recommendation, the answer was "NO". I ended up going to another hotel to use their concierge everytime I needed assistance. The "business center" was actually 2 computers and a printer off the bar. Drinks machines and ice are not on every floor so plan ahead. Arriving at the bar at 11:20 pm one night and asking for some food and a drink - we were greeted with basic grunts and resigned service. The hours of operation were posted as open until 12:30 am, but it was clear that we were not welcomed. The next morning we went to the restaurant for breakfast. The Eggs Benedict were okay but the french toast was more liked grill bread than french toast. The doormen/bellhops were always pleasant and helpful. The front desk staff appeared competent at their job of registering and checking out guests, but certainly did not go above and beyond and did not provide the services for visiting tourists.

Dear khpt1000_10,

Thank you for taking the time to write your comments. We want to sincerely apologize for the service you received. As you can see from other reviews, this is not our standard. Please be reassured that we are looking into engineering, lounge, concierge items. There is so much to see and do, in our neighborhood, that I truly appreciate your feedback. Our business center is located near our lounge, but you are able to access the internet free for 20 minutes. There are so many hotels that have the business center in a private room, but charge for each minute you are on the internet. We hope that you will give us another opportunity to show you our wonderful service.

Warm Regards,
Management

I was attending a convention at the Gaylord Hotel in National Harbor and my wife and I decided to spend the last night in Washinton at the Churchill. Needless to say we will be saying at the Churchill next year and I will be taking the Subway and bus to the convention.

Arrived at he hotel on Easter Sunday at 3:00 PM. Check in was prompt and easy. Parked car in valet and thought the cost (under $32) for the two nights was reasonable as well as convenient. The room was large, very comfortable, quiet and very nicely furnished. With so many dinning choices available within a few blocks of the hotel finding a good restaurant within walking distance to the Churchill was no problem. We felt very safe walking in the area of the hotel after dark. We enjoyed a great breakfast in the hotel restaurant on both mornings of our stay which we would highly recommend. Public transportation is an easy 5 minute walk from the hotel if you wish to sight see out of the area. We took a full day trolley tour which we boarded a few blocks form the hotel. Would surely stay in this hotel on our next trip back from Florida which we do every year.

Glad to hear you had a terrific stay and that you were able to experience our wonderful neighborhood. There is a lot to do and see and we are only a few blocks away from public transportation. One small correction on our parking rate, which is $37 per night, but still reasonable for the city. We look forward to your next year's visit. Thank you for taking the time to write you comments.

We stayed at The Churchill for a few days. for the most part, we enjoyed our stay there and our suite was huge and very clean. Thankyou to the staff.
The bellstaff , restaurant staff, bartender and delivery were great! But the front desk were not as helpful. This was the only down side to the hotel and you should avoid the front desk when possible.
The other complaint was the hotel indicates 24 hour room service. We came in from a tour at 11 pm , hadnt had dinner and could not even get a sandwich. We were told the kitchen was closed. We had to order out and have it delivered as most places were already closed. We were counting on room service being available, so I would check ahead of time with the kitchen.
The Chartwell offered a variety on their menu, we had lunch one day, the food was ok but there are plenty of other options. We had breakfast a couple times, delivered to our room and breakfast was hot, filling and on time.
The bathroom wasnt big but it wasnt a problem, it was clean and served the purpose, would be nice if the bathrooms offered fans though.(you'll find you have to keep the door open so its not like a sauna while you are showering)
The only other complaint was it would've been nice if the valet had parked our car under the awning on checkout, as it was pouring rain and we had to pack the car in the rain.
all in all, we would stay here again. I would know better to check about the 24 hr room service and to avoid the front desk next time.

Dear yankeefan13,
Thank you for taking the time to write your comments. We apologize for the service you received at the Front Desk, which is not the type of response we normally hear from our guest's, so you can be sure that we will address. We are pleased to hear your experience with our Bell and Restaurant staff were good ones and we will be sure to pass the complements to them. We do offer 24 Room Service, with a limited menu during the overnight hours. The limited menu consists of cold cut sandwiches and salads. We apologize if this was not to your expectations. Thank you for choosing our hotel and we are looking forward to your next visit.

Warm Regards,
Management
