“Adorable yet modern”
Reviewed November 19, 2013

This very cute hotel had a Jane-Austen feel throughout with wallpaper and winding corridors whlie being modern and up to date in all amenities. Service was fine, as we requested very little from the staff it's hard to say more. Easy walk to the nearby Marriott convention center, little longer walk to dupont circle metro but very reasonable. Lovely hotel. The large sized rooms (we had a junior 2 double bed suite on the 4th floor) made it very comfortable to stay for a couple nights and spread out - much more comfortable than a typically laid out hotel room.

Room Tip: The junior double bed suite is not actually a suite in that it's all one big room, but there are...

Greetings JackieNYC13, Thank you very much for your kind words and for taking time to post a flattering review. Your "Jane Austen" comment with regards to the wall paper is absolutely true. It does make one think and feel of the 19th century which is simply enchanting. The historical nature of The Churchill Hotel combined with the spaciousness of our suites definitely adds pleasure and enjoyment to anyone staying here; PLEASE COME BACK AND STAY WITH US!

My daughter and I travelled to DC November 2nd and stayed at the Churchill. The staff was very professional and hospitable. They took care of our bags and our car and provided an Pre check in service. The room was very nice and quiet (room 927). Very comfortable bed. We loved the historical ambiance of it and were extremely comfortable. It was very clean with very nice linens. We loved it.

Room Tip: Room 927 was very quiet!

The Churchill Hotel is a registered historical property and has a lot of character. We were there for about a week and overall the hotel experience was very nice. We also appreciated getting upgraded to a Junior Suite for free! It was on the 4th floor (rm 432 or 436 -- can't remember) but it was facing out the front of the hotel, above the entrance.

If you're a light sleeper, you'll want to be on higher floors. The 4th floor is really loud when all the sirens go by. On most nights there was a high speed motorcade with 6-7 vehicles going by with the vice president or someone important! The problem for light sleepers is that there is a police escort with sirens on. So it's pretty loud! That really doesn't bother me but I know it will to some folks. So go high!

The junior suite was very nice because it was roomy and had a fridgerator. Not all of the rooms have desks so be sure to check with the front desk if you need one that does. I rely on hotel desks to work on my laptop so this would be a requirement.

The hotel has been renovated and is nice, but the floors are really creaky and you hear your neighbors moving around. This should be expected for older hotels and again it's not something you can be picky about.

Finally, there is a decent bar/restaurant down on the 1st floor. I didn't eat breakfast there but I heard it was pretty pricey. However, I did eat several dinners and appetizers at the bar and Hugo the bartender was awesome. Very friendly and provided excellent service. The prices were pretty high but you're eating in a hotel bar in DC. Have the correct expectations and you'll be fine. :)

This hotel is directly across the street from the Washington Hilton. You'll want to tell that to your taxi drivers since they may not know where the hotel is by name.

Room Tip: High floor if you are a light sleeper to avoid waking up as much with sirens going by. Also, if you...

A superb place to live when you are travelling in Dc and virginia i have went for a business trip and find this hotel on tripadvisor 5/5 . The rooms are huge with every conceivable extra and the beds and furnishings are fantastic. The only sour point was that we could find no mention in our room of any restaurant in the hotel

My only quibble would be a sub par and overpriced breakfast. But there many options a short walk down Connecticut Avenue and a 24 hour good quality store one block down on the left. Arrived very late from San Francisco and the reception staff and security could not have been more helpful.

This really is a beautiful hotel, the rooms reminded us of Gleneagles in the UK. The rooms are huge with every conceivable extra and the beds and furnishings are fantastic. The only sour point was that we could find no mention in our room of any restaurant in the hotel so that night we walked down to the Dupont Circle for dinner, it was only on our return that we realised that there was a restaurant in a room behind reception, seemed very odd that there was no mention of it in our room.

Room Tip: There is a restaurant behind the recption desk, honestly. : o )

Greetings Jmurphypsa, Your five star is well received and thank you for calling The Churchill "stunning". As you stated, the suites are very spacious and the beautiful decor definitely compliments the historical architecture of each suite. I'm sorry there wasn't a guest directory in your suite to inform you of the local eateries, but I'm glad you learned of our in house restaurant "The Chartwell". So whenever you come back and stay with us, please ask for MTruesdelle and I'll make sure your dining experience at our restaurant The Chartwell is an enjoyable one.

If you are looking to staying in a nice and charming neighborhood, close to amazing restaurants and cafes this is the place. This hotel has that beautiful old look and the perfect customer service that will make you come back. We spend four wonderful days in here, the Dupont location is amazing lots to thing to see around at walking distance, all kind of restaurants just perfect, the hotel is very clean and well kept but is dated so only if you like this kind of building you will love it like we did.

Room Tip: stay away from the street side it can be really noisy at night
