We recently "rediscovered" this area during Jazz Fest in June though we have been going to Truckeroo for a few years now (definitely check that out too). It's absolutely amazing! The landscaping and architecture are beautiful. It's extremely family friendly but fun even if you don't have kids. The wading pool and splash park are especially fun. There are a number of excellent restaurants in the area. You can find a spot to relax, exercise, have a picnic or enjoy the Friday night outdoor summer concerts. People are hanging out with family and friends until late at night during the weekend so you know it's safe. We all felt like it was being in Europe..check it out!

What a fun place. The huge wading pool is located near the Anacostia Riverfront. A lovely decorative bridge goes over one end of the pool and a waterfall and fountains are at the other end. A greenspace is next to it. Many restaurants are in the area, and on some nights there is free music around the corner. The military ship nearby, the SS Barry has hours for touring. It's best seen at twilight or even night because some features are lighted nearby: the bridge, benches, the waterfall, etc. We had dinner at Agua 301 (which overlooks the splash park) and then played at the park until after dark. It's about a 10-15 minute walk from the nearest metro station.

We found this park on a local blog while searching for DC activities to involve young children. It was over 90 degrees each day for our trip so we decided to go to the park so that our kids could enjoy the fountain and wading pool. It is located right on the river. Tables and chairs are provided in the shade. There is one portable bathroom available. This park is just a few blocks down from the Nationals Stadium. We took the green line to Navy Yard and the metro workers were excellent in guiding is in the right direction. If you have young children (mine were 4 and 1), you won't be disappointed!

Up & coming area near the Nationals Ballpark. Perfect evening offered beautiful setting for jazz performances. Crowd brought blankets, chairs & picnic baskets. Heard a harmonica played like never before. Kids can swim in wading pool while parents take in the sights of Potomac. Worth the Metro transfer to make this event. Great time.

There's a lot to love about this park. It's still relatively brand new and never crowded. Kids will love the wading pool.
