“Cool jazz and dinner in SW Washington - neighborly crowd”

Jazz Night at Westminster Presbyterian Church
Attraction details
Reviewed July 17, 2014

Held in a slick modern church, local bands perform, some are award-winning bands, and the crowd can sit up close and interact, even jig in the aisles, it's such a friendly atmosphere. Dinner is available with simple but delicious fare in the social hall below. There are no alcoholic beverages served. The show is displayed with the music for diners to enjoy while eating. Parking is tight in that neighborhood, and Metro access is really good [station Waterfront on Green Line]. Prices reasonable.

Came into town on a little jazz tour and found out about this place thru a friend. 6 of us ventured in after the first set and had to leave part way thru the 3rd set and wanted to stay longer, but transportation called. The jam was terrific! Good straightforward playing by the combo. Sax, trumpet, piano, bass, drums...all monsters! Will stop again if I'm in on a Friday night!

We really enjoyed our jazz night at the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Great music, food and very friendly people. $5 donation to get in and then dinner was $7.50 - which is a great price for dinner in this expensive town. We had choices of BBQ ribs and chicken, meatloaf and fish with lots of great side dishes including some amazing macaroni and cheese. We were too full for dessert but they had lots of pie and other good looking options.

It felt very friendly and the music was very good - great band and vocalist. Plus, It felt good to support a local church.

The quartet performing had some folks dancing in the aisles, pleasing the crowd with some saucy numbers, plus some touching ballads we all knew. The pianist, the base and sax and chanteuse were all great. This church has good acoustics, is attractive, easy to reach and also offers an inexpensive, tasty dinner in the community room, great way to spend an evening, very congenial. Especially recommended for Jazz buffs from out of town to enjoy a very neighborly facet of life here in DC. Westminster also offers Blues Night on Mondays, 6-9PM as well.

If you enjoy jazz or the blues, this is for you. Jazz is 6pm Friday and Blue is 6pm Monday. Still only $5 donation. Top flight talent, and a spirited, friendly crowd. On Friday, get there a little early for a good seat. Just one block from the Waterfront station on Metro's green line. A variety of food, at a reasonable price, is served in the church basement. Most folks attending are regulars from the DC area, but visitors will be welcomed.
