I loved this memorial because it was practically off the map... Other war memorials and presidential memorials were huge with their own paths, signs, etc. This one was sort of in the middle of the underbrush where you sort of go off-road to get to it.

It's simple and nice to sit down for a while, away from the thousands of tourists that crowd the other memorials in The Mall. It's also a nice message from the local DC residents, who raised the money and got the ok to build a memoria just for the often over-looked district's soldiers.

This Memorial is located near the Korea Memorial on the Mall. Remember, it is not dedicated to all WW1 Veterans, just the ones who served from the District of Columbia - which explains why it is not bigger. The DC citizens raised the money themselves to pay for this monument, making it special. When I was there, it was rather dirty, as though everyone forgot it exists. Hopefully it is cleaned since it is DC's own memorial. The memorial isn't very crowded so its a nice place to take a break.

This memorial shines. It is located on the National Mall but is a DC memorial to the veterans of WW1. It is quiet, pretty, and for this grandson of a WW1 Navy veteran, very moving. The fact that it lacks the grandeur of other war memorials in the capital makes it, for me, all the more special.

This is the National Mall's hidden little gem. It's the perfect place to sit quietly and think about all the people who've help build this country.

Actually - it's likely a great place to propose to someone. I'm sure that's happened a lot. Find it. Enjoy it!

Looks like something out of the movie Fantasia. It is a small monument and the MLK Memorial is nearby. I would not go just for the DC War Memorial, but worth a stop when walking around seeing the other memorials and monuments.
