Great location across from Barracks Row and walking distance from Eastern Market. Restaurant was fully booked with reservations so we sat at the bar which was very comfortable. Spicey bloody mary is very spicey but it was quickly fixed. Pancakes were great, hash and eggs were above average. Terrific ambiance, service was great...very enjoyable. Note: even though tables were held for reservations, there were several tables available the entire time we were there. This has happened to us before. Restaurants need to visit their reservation policy and allow got those no shows who book a table but don't have the courtesy to cancel.

We were lucky enough to visit on a nice night when they had the front windows open so the atmosphere was great. The food was average, decent enough- my boyfriend had steak and I had the risotto. I've had better and I've had worse.

Zest is impressive in its mixture of flavors. It's great to actually find seasoned food in DC! Thank you for not being afraid of adding spices, chefs at Zest. The specials are usually good. The servings are nice and big (making parents who are concerned about this happy/making it possible to share if you're not too hungry). The dishes are usually spot on. (For burger lovers, though, beware of you "well done" version, since your bread might also be charred.)

The drinks, though, need a little more finessing. They are good, but just flat. The ingredient list gets your taste buds all excited, but then, they fall flat. Mixologists, please spend some more time on those.

Service is usually good, but as other reviewers have noted, it can be hit or miss. They tend to be accommodating for groups, which is wonderful and helpful when you're dealing with Metro delays and more. However, it all depends on the team working that evening. On a recent visit they just weren't communicating properly and made us feel as if we were somehow not supposed to be there. Hint to the maitre d' and waiters, please don't stare at the table you're discussing, since it's just noticeable. All tables have numbers, you can look at the computer screen and discuss the issue (especially an easily solvable one, like giving us fewer tables for the size of our group, which we were fine with) without glaring at the table. Just a hint...

My son and I ate a delicious build your own omelette here on a Sunday morning. Our waiter, James, was so attentive and the meal was hot and delicious. We added two Mimosas as well. Nicely done, clean, and friendly.
