The paintings often tilt crazily; the music veers from Old World Paris accordion to New Age to Brazilian beat; the decor consists of red glass chandaliers & wine bottles arrayed like beans on a tree. But in this old converted house, the food is divine: perfectly prepared & presented by friendly & efficient waiters, with not a soupcon of snobbery. Duck, beef, Chilean sea bass or vegetarian....you can't go wrong. Cacao could be romantic; it could be a fine spot for a small client meeting: flexiility is the key. We were a group of 6, and we had no trouble hearing each other. An all-round success. Highly recommended.

We picked this restaurant based on the ratings on Trip Advisor, and they were right on the mark! We had a great experience at this restaurant. We ordered appetizers, dinner and dessert --- all were made fresh, perfectly and had great presentation. Service was great and the atmosphere was romantic---the decor was French shabby chic.

I picked this restaurant off of TripAdvisor looking for a romantic restaurant to spend the evening with my boyfriend while in DC for the inauguration. This was one of the best restaurants I have eaten at in a long time (we are avid travelers)!! The ambiance was romantic, the atmosphere was very European, our server, Veronique provided the BEST service and the food was delicious!!!!! Every course of my meal as well as his meal was mouthwatering!!!! We will eat here every time we visit DC!!!! We highly recommend Bistro Cacao!!!!!!

The restaurant appears how I would imagine 1920’s Paris, private booths, draped to ensure privacy. I enjoyed the music which added to the ambiance, the service was attentative, only criticism was that the meal was served almost too fast! The food is excellent, the portions are more European (thankfully smaller than typical US!) but the flavours are very good. There is a good choice of Wine and as with the food is very good value. Highly recommended.

We dined here with friends from out of town who live in Europe, and had recently traveled to Paris. We were all blown away at the meal, the service, and the quality of the dining experience. The wine selection was also very easy to manage and reasonably priced.

If everyone is up for it, or for a nice romantic dinner, just order the wine and chef's tasting menu and let the pros do all the work of selecting your meals and wine accompanying the course. It is a five course meal, and it is well worth it.
