Stayed at the W Washington for three nights last weekend for the National Equality March. The hotel is beautiful, nicely redone, clean and the staff is very attentive. Devon at the front desk was very welcoming. We arrived late in the evening on a Friday night and the line to get into the hotel was pretty long. The bouncers and the cordoned off rope was a bit intimidating -it really looked like it was nightclub! We were let in and when we got to the lobby it felt like a South Beach nightclub, music blaring, very crowded. It's not what one expects when walking into a hotel lobby. After getting through various cordoned off areas with security we made it to the front desk and were able to check in.

The rooms are small (we had a spectacular room). Very well decorated and very comfortable beds. The bathrooms don't provide much privacy. The shower is a glass box in the room and the sliding door to the bathroom doesn't close all the way so you can see into the bathroom - not much privacy.

The rooftop terrace is amazing and the views are spectacular. However don't expect to sit anywhere as all the tables on the terrace were always reserved, eventhough they were empty most of the time. We asked about it and told that they were reserved so we didn't sit down.

As far as the location, you can't beat it. Steps from the White House, two subway stations a few blocks away and the Mall within walking distance too.

I am a student at Cornell's School of Hotel Administration and was impressed with not only the interior design of the W, but the service we received. I stayed here with a few friends (who are also Hotel school students) in a room that had two queen sized beds. I was in DC for the Solar Decathlon Competition (go Cornell!) The rooms were AMAZING. I'm actually really surprised that people said the rooms were small, because all 5 of us comfortably fit inside. This sounds very trivial, but the carpet in the rooms is so soft and it feels amazing on your feet after a long day.

All of the employees were extremely courteous and never condescending, even when I walked in completely grungy after spending the entire day on the National Mall for the Solar Decathlon competition. Yes, the lobby does get hectic during the weekend nights because non-hotel guests are waiting in line for POV. However, as soon as you show the bouncers your room key they immediately escort you to the elevator. I never had to wait in line. My friends and I absolutely loved the VIP treatment we received.

I went up to POV twice, both of which were very nice. The view is simply mesmerizing. The people that go to POV are classy and elegant

The Whatever, Whenever desk is amazing! They took care of all of our concerns promptly. The drain in our shower was clogged when we arrived and an engineer showed up to our door within 5 minutes of us asking for help. The next day we received a complimentary gift (a bottle of Fiji water and two apples) along with a handwritten note of apology. The W's service recovery process certainly impressed us.

Great hotel, clean rooms, gorgeous lobby, and most of all, a phenomenal location if you are there to see the government sites. You can see the White House from the roof bar/restaurant, which is a must-see while you are there. Walking distance to Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, the White House, and even the Capitol is not too far. It's in a gorgeous part of the city. Only thing is, despite the fact we are two twenty-somethings from NYC that live in a "hip" neighborhood in Manhattan, we found that this hotel was too hip for us! We headed downstairs looking for a quick bite to eat and found ourselves basically in the middle of a nightclub. Long lines to get upstairs to the bar, people crowding the downstairs bar, men in suits, women in skimpy sparkly dresses...not what I was expecting from DC. Unfortunately I left all my skimpy sparkly dresses at home!! Though, we ended up eating at the steakhouse at the hotel and it was excellent. We'd stay there again, only if for more than one night, we'd ask for a better room. It was really small and there was no view - directly into a brick building, so no light came in the room either. And, the bathroom door did not close all the way, seemed as if by design, so we could see each other on the toilet from the bedroom! But the room was nice and clean and comfortable.

My husband and I just returned from our first stay at the new W Hotel in DC. From the time we arrived and dropped our car off with the valet to the time we checked out, our experience was nothing less than fantastic. The gentleman at the front desk extended to us a warm welcome, and he immediately acknowledged my husband's platinum status with Starwood Hotels, giving us an upgrate from a Queen to a King room.

We found the accommodations to be both clean and comfortable. Though the room is completely white it did not have a sterile feel to it, and though on the smaller side we were not at all uncomfortable with the size. The toiletries in the bathroom were all provided by Bliss, the Hotel's spa. I usually travel with my own toiletries, but this time I used what was in the room and I was very pleasantly surprised. I liked all the products. The mini bar contained the usual assortment of goodies, but I was especially impressed by the "offering" of an umbrella. I don't know how much it costs, but I thought it was a very clever idea. If ever a traveler was met with unexpected wet weather, how convenient to be able to take the umbrella from your room rather than run around the city looking for one, getting drenched along the way.

The POV rooftop lounge/terrace/restaurant is fabulous! All the staff was extremely friendly, the service was outstanding, the view...amazing, the food and drinks....delicious.! We liked what they did with the ice for the drinks. My husband had a bourbon which came in a glass with a sphere of ice specifically created for the purpose of not melting too quickly and diluting the bourbon. Very clever!! The food is a little pricey, but we enjoyed it so much that we really didn't mind paying a little more for it. We couldn't help but notice that everyone up there (the customers) had a smile on their faces and were clearly enjoying themselves as much as we were. When they say POV offers the best view of the city, they're not kidding. Overlooking the White House, the Washington Monument and all areas around the city, it was a spectacular sight. There was often a line in the lobby waiting to be escorted up to POV, but hotel guests are offered preferential space in the line to get up. We never had to wait more than a few minutes. There is constant communication between the staff in the lobby and those up in POV. It is well organized and would seem to be a necessity considering the amount of people coming to POV.

We had breakfast at J&G Steak House. We found the food to be very good and the servers to be very deliberate. The service was a bit on the slow side...it was unclear as to whether they were short staffed.

The Hotel lobby, known as the "Living Room" is a happening place. With an abundance of comfortable seating areas, and a bar of its own, it was clearly a gathering place for many. The young staff throughout the hotel was very energetic and devoted to customer satisfaction. We didn't once pass a hotel employee who didn't greet us and ask if there was anything we needed.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the W and will most definitely stay there again on our next visit to DC.

Where do I begin. I"m beginning to believe that the W Hotel is just not cut out to be a luxury hotel. It's like almost doesn't count with them, you know? Came here for a conference this past weekend with the wifey, and a little leisure. (Washington dc is one of our favorite cities in America!) So we were pretty hyped but Lemme just say we weren't ready for this W. At all!!! So here goes:

Location- couldn't have been better!! It is literally in the heart of the district and walking distance to everything....and i mean everything! However this same location makes parking ridiculously overpriced, oppressive & draining.

Service- Front desk workers were very courteous and helpful. No complaints here.

Amenities- absolutely none whatsoever, get in where you fit in...and go broke in the process. Period. Quite disappointing considering what they charge. ($350 a night...thank god for the state rate cuz they are robbing people blindly) Bottled water in the room was $9... that should be illegal. the computer lab charges $6 for internet usage. WTH?

Lobby Area---Super cosmopolitan!! Very impressive upon first glance...that is until you check in and see what goes on down there daily. The fake fire place was not impressive. It's like they just redecorated the hotel to be chic but still kinda missed the mark. You'd have to see for yourself. So we're pretty young and like to have a good time, especially in grown n sexy atmospheres, but when when we were going to our room thursday night, the lobby was sheer pandeomonium! They had blocked off the main hallway for the rooftop party and you had to get permission to go to your room by some security man. I told him I stayed there and he let me through, only to walk up to a line of patrons standing by the 1 elevator they had for hotel guests. (the other 2 were for the roof top party which explained the long line in the lobby.) So we waited 20 minutes for that 1 elevator to go to every floor. And that was pretty much the case for the rest of our stay.

So if you can't beat'em, join them! We met another couple down in the lobby for drinks and actually enjoyed the atmosphere and live dj. (took pics!) It was great but the hotel was trying to do the most, with the least and its creating an uncomfortable stay for many of the hotel guest paying $350 a night.

Parking- ridiculously expensive so don't do it! We paid the first night and it was $45. So we started parking on the street a couple of blocks up for free on the weekends and just walked back to the room. Saved us a ton of money. there is a parking garage right across that charges $18 for 2-12 hourse, which is cheaper than the hotel, but you must stay for the max or you end up paying $18 for 2 hours.

Room- Impressively small but decorated nice. Kinda of that overkill feel tho. The light switch is fancy and doesn't always work. Just give me a regular light switch. lol. I liked the shower set up, but if you are not a couple, you have no privacy, as you can literally see through the shower glass, right next to the bed. And for some reason the sliding door doesnt close all the way and the shower leaks water to the outside of the bathroom. We did like the wine glasses in the room! The flat screen and nice and very clear. The bed is comfortable and the room cleaners are pretty thorough.

Fitness Center- Nice, modern, and fairly large!!! Loved it!

Overall, had we paid $350 a night, it would have been a horrible experience. The hotel has potential but needs to work out some lobby nightlife logistics.

At the W Hotel in DC, we found the Roof Terrace Cafe to have wonderful views of DC. We had appetizers--they were tasty and the service was polite and not hurrying us to leave.

Our "Cozy" room was tiny. Our bathroom sliding door did not completely close and there was an inch or two opening even when the bathroom door was "closed". There was a good bit of food and drinks from the mini bar displayed on the wall with the TV--much more than we would have liked. The bed was great.

The lobby on Saturday night was very noisy with music and a disc jockey (too noisy for us). There is a very pleasant bar area 1 floor below the lobby floor where we had yummy desserts. You can reach this bar by going through the J&G restaurant in the W and walking down 1 flight of stairs (no need to eat in J&G restaurant to do this), and there is a small street entrance to the bar near the Intercontinental hotel which is next door to the W.

Parking was $45 but we paid about $20 and walked a couple of short blocks. There are other garages nearby for less than we paid.
