Stayed here on business travel for one night. Convenient location in heart of DC. Very trendy, typical of W hotel designs. Hotel room full of design features but very small and odd layout (sink is in main bedroom, bathroom is simply an enclosed glassed-in space with a toilet and a shower cube with a door). Desk was too small so had to work sitting on my bed. Hotel staff were really personable and remember your name. Very modern design inside of an old hotel with all of the typical W hotel features. Lighting in all W hotels is dark in hallways and rooms; I have stayed in 5 different ones and this seems to be their design feature. Hotel definitely appears to cater to a hip crowd and lobby bar is relatively loud. Probably would want to stay there for a leisure vacation more than a business trip in the future.

Hello TravelChick,

Thank you so much for your review. We take great pride in the service we provide our guests and we are happy you felt at home during your stay. Because of the historic nature of our building the basic rooms are smaller. But we were inspired by the French Renaissance styling the building had and combined that with W’s modern design to give our hotel a very unique feel. We hope you will stay with us on your next escape and please let us know Whatever/Whenever you need.

Best Regards,

We just wanted to give a huge thanks to ALL of the staff at the W in DC (3/10-3/13). You have the most polite and helpful staff of any Starwood property I have stayed and I stay at quite a few around the US. Each member of my family commented on how nice everyone was as well. A special shout out to Dan, Ronnie and Bob.

Anyone thinking about visiting our nation's capital on business or pleasure should give the folks at the W a chance to wow you.

Keep up the great work! We will see you again!

W Washington located in the central area of Washington DC.
The hotel is very hip, not much different then any W hotel rooms you seen, the building is a little bit historic looking, but the funny thing is the name, hotel front showing "Hotel Washington" instead of W Washington Hotel, I'm in the travel industry business, so I saw the side shows the purple color with the white color W, I knew that is the W Hotel, but for someone never been, might be a little bit confuse

Hotel have a huge lobby.

And when you walk to the end, there is a steak house, great food

At night, is where this hotel lobby turning into a nightclub kind of looking.
They will have DJ playing music in the hotel lobby, and also a long line going to the rooftop.
They have a open air rooftop bar, loud music, bars, you know the nightclub thing

For my opinion, this hotel is not good for family, for young single or couples only, no children's

Room Tip: This hotel is not good for any children's, at night, specially the weekend, you will see at the...

Hello skyone,

Thank you for your review. We do have a great location in Downtown and breathtaking views from our rooftop bar. Because we were able to acquire such a historic building, we were not able to change the outside structure. This includes the original marquee from Hotel Washington. But we were able to combine the buildings French Renaissance design with W’s modern cool to create a unique style. We hope to welcome you back on your next escape and please let us know Whatever/Whenever you need.

My wife and I have stayed at the W in NYC and now the DC edition. The DC hotel is an amalgam of the old and the new. An old hotel (The Washington) got a makeover and you also get the new, edgy, eclectic furnishings of the W concept.

The plus marks for this hotel: The staff is unfailingly polite, friendly, helpful and efficient. Check in was superbly done. We were a little early hoping to get a jump start on an anniversary celebration. A nice cup of hot cider in the magnificent lobby. Jennifer did a great job of doing all she could, stored our bags and sent us up the the Roof Terrace (beautiful views on a beautiful day...Washington Monument, The White House, Treasury Building all right beneath us). Had some very nice wine at the Terrace. Everything is clean and sparkling.

This hotel is in a great location. You can walk easily to monuments, the Tidal basin and all kinds of DC sights as noted above. The views from the Roof Terrace and even the J&G Steakhouse restaurant on the first floor are great.

The J&G Steakhouse is a great restaurant with just superb food and service. I did a separate review for it, but dinner and breakfast were top-notch in all respects.

The fitness room was very good. Plenty of cardio (treadmills, ellipticals, rowers and stationary bikes plus nice weight machines. Once again, cean and well-stocked with towels, water and earphones for the tv's on the cardio machines.

On the minus side: For the price, small rooms with no where to sit except the bed (unless you count the chair for the desk). The room noises from down the hall, up above, wherever, are noticeable. Noisy guests woke us up around 1 am and a call to the front desk resulted in quiet after a while. Other noises such as doors slamming, motorcycles on the streets, and sirens resulted in a not-so-wonderful sleep experience. Bathroom shower leaked water onto the floor and the shower floor itself could have used a non-slip type mat. I thought the mini-bar prices were astronomical for wine, champagne, well, just about everything.

The staff is so helpful and accommodating, I wish I could give the hotel a better overall review. The minuses are endemic in the hotel remodel and there is no amount of work the staff can do to overcome the room size and inherent noisiness.

This is a beautiful hotel 1 block from the White House and within walking distance to most major attractions in D.C. The lobby is beautifully decorated in black, white and red with gold accents. The bar is ultra-hip (although we didn't partake there). The W, who purchased this D.C. landmark 3 or 4 years ago, kept some of the original lobby pieces, which makes it a nice fusion of past and present. The staff were very helpful and check-in was quick. We purchased from Priceline's "Name Your Own Price" and got a great deal ($191 per night) or we wouldn't have been able to afford the $399 per night price tag. The room itself was fairly small with sleek modern white molded plastic furniture. The headboard had very interesting red ambient lighting. The bed was comfortable and spacious. Our room faced the inner courtyard, so all we saw were other windows and walls. I suspect Priceline bidders get these rooms instead of the ones with views. The bathroom (behind a sliding door that didn't close all the way) was a toilet and a stand-up shower made of semi-opaque glass. Whoever is showering gets displayed for the room, so if you are shy, you won't like it. Also, if you are shy about your bathroom noises, you won't like it because the glass enclosure magnifies every sound. The sink was in the room outside the bathroom door. The lighting was poor so if you have to shave or apply makeup, you won't be able to do it very well. We also did not like that we had to request a Keurig for the room and fought with them every day to bring us Keurig cups for the machine. They also never brought us any more cups to drink from after the first day, so we had to make the coffee in the water glasses. They also did not replenish the beer or the snacks until we asked. Speaking of snacks, we had 2 beers and 2 cans of nuts and it was $40, so bring your own snacks! Finally, we had difficulty getting our phones to work in the hotel and had difficulty with our personal hotspot on our phone to avoid the $15 per day for internet service. To summarize, the room was nice enough because we weren't in it that much during the day. However, spending that much money, one expects free snacks, plentiful coffee, replenished supplies and free internet. If I had paid $399 per night, I would have been really ticked! However, the proximity to where we needed to be somewhat made up for all that.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view unless you want to look at other windows and brick walls. Also, ask for a...

Hello crimedoc,

Thank you so much for your review. We do have a great location with walking distance to many of the District’s major landmarks. Because of the historic nature of our building there are some rooms that do have an inner view of the building and try to accommodate guests as best we can during check-in. We are so happy you liked our design of French Renaissance mixed with W’s warm cool. We would love to speak with you more about the service you received and also the amenities we offer in our rooms. You know you're in a W when you walk in the front lobby and hear the club bass playing in the background. At least that's the first sound we noticed on a busy Sat night when we checked in. Though lobby was hopping staff was very attentive and included campaign reception. Nice clean quiet rooms, . Above average work out room. Friendly and helpful staff. My W gripe is the bathroom concept. While this was better than the Montreal "open air" W bathroom arrangement, still not a totally private experience. Shower was nice. Mini bar more than a bit steep for the booze. Nonetheless, another SPG steal I recommend.

Room Tip: far corner X01 or X51
