The Botanic Garden is free to visit. There is one main level and an elevated canopy walk around the Tropics. Being summer and the afternoon, it was very hot inside. The galleries on each end are air-conditioned. The Graden had a mixture of plants but we weren't that impressed. There weren't many flowering during our visit. Our kids were very bored. The children's garden was a letdown, too. We walked the entire garden in about 20 minutes.

This did not feel like a “real” Botanic Garden. Been to many of these and they were much more spacious.
It is free, but not worth the time when there is so much other to see (my opinion)

This place can be easily missed given everything that is available in DC, but gardeners (and all others, really) should seek it out. Wonderful building with rooms of greenery in an intriguing turn of the century building. This summer there is a special display of about 20 public gardens that competed for a chance to show who and what they are to all the visitors in Washington. Interesting to see and enjoy the variety of gardens across this land.

I love everything about the Botanical Gardens - the Bartholdi garden across the street from the building and the grounds with special exhibits also outside of the greenhouse. Bring a lunch as you are permitted to eat inside or out but no pets other than working service animals. Some very exotic specimens like the corpse plant and carnivorous plants. Even a talk about bees and pollinators with a taste of honey from the garden’s own beehives. A very special attraction right next to the US Capital. And, there is nothing for sale there!

We happily stumbled upon the Botanic Gardens after leaving the Capitol. The gardens were a refreshing and welcomed stop after walking around the city for days. There are plants of every variety from every ecosystem. Just gorgeous to walk through and very peaceful! With no fees, lines or crowds it’s a worthwhile place to check out!
