We visited here on a Saturday afternoon and were surprised by the number of visitors. It's free to visit which may have encouraged people.

The highlight is the conservatory. It has a number of different zones from tropical to desert to Mediterranean. All well done.

The outside garden was a tad disappointing but that may have been partly due to when we visited.

The Brooklyn conservatory is actually better if you want to see how good they can be.

A nice comfortable place to visit. A little hot in some areas. Beautiful plants and flowers. Beautiful setting. FREE and No Security to go through. Worth your time.

If you Live or work in Washington, I could see the attraction of coming to the Botanical Center to eat lunch or relax by the flowers and gardens but it wasn’t a tourist attraction that would have been high on my lust. However, they did have one of the nicest restrooms I’ve visited. They have beautiful fresh flowers and interesting historical pictures on the walls. It’s also conveniently situated by the Capital Building.

In very few steps, one takes a tour around the world horticulturally, traveling from Hawaii to the Gobi desert to lush orchid gardens. The multistory arboretum allows you to walk in a rain forest at several levels, feeling the intense heat and humidity near the top, while observing unusual tropical plants set among waterfalls and lagoons. A must visit for anyone who loves plants. They rotate plants to maximize visitors' experiences; i enjoyed a variety of different orchids during my visit as well as exotic ferns and flowering plants. Fantastic for families as an education to the horticultural delights of the world.

It happened to be a sunny warm day on the day we visited. We were a bit disappointed that the orchid display wasn't more robust, but after visiting Longwood Gardens (in PA) the comparison isn't fair. This is a lovely garden and we will return.
