“Respite in the Rain”
Reviewed March 7, 2013

To get out of the rain we walked to the Botanical Gardens. Very well laid out and excellent information on the global transportation of plants, medicinal plants, desert, tropical, special area devoted to orchids. and it's free because it's part of the US Smithsonian system. Highly recommend

“Cozy and green, not just plants.”
Reviewed March 7, 2013 via mobile

While many plants and trees make up the attraction, there is also an exhibit that explains the history of spices and herbs and also provides several opportunities to see and smell them as well as pairing different flowers and fragrances with memories, etc. The day we were there we had the treat of observing a newly married young bridal couple having wedding pictures taken among the exotic plants and beautiful flowers. If visiting the District in the winter months, the Botanic Garden is a great place to spend an hour to warm up before moving on to other sites. Very helpful staff and just a couple of blocks from the metro too.

“Nice respite from the cold”
Reviewed March 5, 2013

This was a beautiful resting place and a great place to get warm on a very cold day. There are so many beautiful plants here from different regions of the earth, lots of great places to sit and read, and just enjoy being in nature.
