“a lush jungle right on the mall”

Such a special place-- and really worth going, even just for a great place to sit and r elax in between other sight seeing. I especially love going here in the winter, to pretend i'm in a tropical location.

“Very good botanical garden”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2012 via mobile

The outside garden is quiet in November but inside it is warm and you can see so many kinds of orchids. They also have organic replicas of famous DC landmarks which are remarkable. I didn't plan to go there and it was a great oasis. Loved it.

“In the lap of Mother Nature”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2012

Speechless I am after my visit there. It is really a jaw dropping collection of plants & an excellent manner of display. It is not crowded, easily accessible and above all 'differently abled' friendly. Innumerable species of plants & flowers that I had not seen before. Very well lit, and maintained. There are different sections - desert theme, rain forest, for children (open summers only), and what not. There is a full fledged jungle grown inside a greenhouse, built in 2 storeys with 2 halls that host special events (I am planning to visit the next one when it starts on 22 Nov). And its free :)
If you are a nature (esp plant) lover, must visit. Reserve 2-3 hrs if you can walk briskly, if you want to stude the plants or enjoy photograhy, this is the place, but then you need half a day. Walkable from Metro station, right in the middle of other DC attractions.

“Garden of Eden”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 13, 2012

The last time we were in DC, the botanic garden was closed for construction so were happy to find it open. The greenhouses offer a spectacular variety of ecosystems. The maintance of the plants and grounds is amazing. Every where you look, there are healthy plants, restful spots and beautiful landscaping and hardscaping.

The wide eyed wonder on the little kids faces was pure pleasure. There was so much at ground level for the little ones to check out :) The replicas of the famous buildings and memorials that were scattered throughout the greenhouses were like little doll houses. Even the bigger kids were happy when they found a new one.

The Garden is adjacent to the Capitol Building so there were some interesting views of it.
