We visited during the annual orchid exhibit. Orchid overload! So many beautiful types of tropical orchids. Small, large pink, orange, purple, green, speckled and just plain white orchids which were exquisite in their beauty!! As you can tell I love orchids and was thrilled about the exhibit. My son and his girlfriend enjoyed the rest of the exhibits while I took pictures of every single orchid in the exhibit. Maggie loved the section in the gardens with plants that are used for medicinal uses. My son enjoys seeing the different landscapes using the plants from the deserts and from rainforests. They finally dragged me out after my camera card was full. Fantastic place to go, even when they don't have the orchids, but infinitely better with the orchids!!!!

It's on the Mall and easy to miss, but you shouldn't. It's lovely and amazing. So much beauty!

“US Botanic Garden (USBG) Plus Other Sites Near By”
Reviewed April 3, 2012

I've lived in the Washington, DC area since 1972 but had never visited the USBG located near the Capitol and Union Station. On April 1, 2012, my friend and I decided to play "tourists for the day".

1. USBG ( United States Botanical Garden)

This FREE Garden is opened daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Free brochures are available at the entrance such as the "Visitor Guide" and "Calendar of Events".

Start your tour at the Garden Court where orchids are currently on exhibit from February 18-April 29, 2012. Proceed with the areas where plants are displayed/grouped by Jungle, Endangered Species, Desert, Medicinal Plants, Children Garden, etc.

Visit also the outdoor areas of the USBG: The National Garden and the Bartholdi Park which is located across the street.

2. Two Other Beautiful Areas Located Near By

Union Station

The Metro System ( Red Line that runs between the Shady Grove Station and Glenmont Stations), Amtrak and MARK Train Systems share this Station.

There are shops, restaurants, food courts and public rest rooms at the Union Station. Note that sightseeing companies have kiosks at its Main Hall where one can buy tickets for their tours and get maps of Washington, DC.

Capitol "Building

Use this as your landmark for walking towards the USBG. It takes about 10-15 minutes to walk from Union Station to the USBG. There are sidewalks to use for your walks.

Capitol Steps, Reflecting Pool, Military Monuments, Distant View of the Lincoln Monument:

These are the sights that you would see as you walk towards the USBG from Union Station. Take a lot of pictures of these beautiful views.

Consider touring the inside of the Capitol Building. Note that is is closed on weekends but is open to the public on weekdays.

Enjoy your trip of these 3 FREE SIGHTS of Washington, DC!

“Very pretty and intersting”
Reviewed April 1, 2012

The place is really amazing, there are so many interesting plants. It doesn't take long to walk through and explore it all unless you want to read every name. The flowers are really beautiful
