“As Meaningful Today as it Was in FDR's Lifetime”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

The Roosevelt Memorial is on the Tidal Basin between the new MLK Jr Memorial and the Jefferson Memorial. Even in the cold weather without the waterfalls and fountains, this is still a very special place to visit. FDR was a four term president who lead our country through very difficult times. His quoted words on the walls have as much wisdom for today as they had for the times in which he lived. I found this memorial inspiring and hopeful. Both Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt are honored here for their wisdom and service to our country during very difficult times. We truly have 'nothing to fear but fear itself".

“Surprising”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

Had never seen this memorial, and it is worthy of our only three-term president. Includes a section devoted to Eleanor, very nice. Surprising how large it is. Well done statuary and statements in stone.

“Turn the water on!!”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

One of my very, very FAVORITE memorials in D.C.: well-planned, inspirational, informative. My asterisk on this, my third visit to the FDR Memorial, is to take into account the time of year of your visit. So much of this memorial's meaning is centered around the water in the different "rooms". Well, early March, they have the water turned off. So, as great as it was to have this memorial to ourselves on an early March Friday morning, it lacked its impact with exposed pipes and empty basins. Not a reason to stay away, just sharing something that I hadn't expected!

“My favorite Memorial in the District”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

Better to visit when it's warmer as the fountains are all operational, but a great memorial to learn, relax and cool off in the summer. My last visit was in February with a friend from CA, so the fountains were all winterized, but still great to see. Rarely crowded.

“Favorite exhibit”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

This was by far my favorite exhibit in Washington DC. The memorial is laid out in a long walk way and it's a wonderful step back in history. To see the quotes and words of this very wise man was inspiring. I would highly recommend it. We went on a 'after hours/moonlight' tour and it was nice to see it at night - all of the exhibit was lit up well and even at night it was very populated. The kids enjoyed the large rock displays and fountains as well. The fountains were not on when we went in March, but it was still cool to see.
