The fountains are lovely, the statues are as thought-provoking as the quotes, and it's a lovely location near the Tidal Basin. Not as crowded as most of the other monuments.

I did not know what to expect of this memorial while in DC but we came upon it as we were walking back from viewing the Jefferson Memorial. This is a more spread-out memorial then say the Jefferson or Lincoln memorials. It sits nearby to the Potomac and is very pretty with all of the trees and bushes along it's walking paths. There are several gardens and what I would call reflecting areas of this memorial where the words of Roosevelt are inscribed for you to read. There are benches available to sit down and rest and to reflect upon Roosevelt's words, speeches, and his time as our president during WWII. I liked the quietness of this memorial and since it's more out-of-the-way then the other memorials, it wasn't as crowded at it as the other memorials and monuments were (even during the busy tourist month of mid-July when we were there).

Very thought provoking. The waterfalls made you feel like you were elsewhere, listening to his thougths.

The memorial uses flowing water and large blocks to frame significant episodes in FDR's life to help explain his legacy. On a hot day they also provide cooling temperatures. Visit on a moonlit evening to experience it differently. It's even better to visit with an aged family member who remembers FDR and can illuminate his importance.

what a great exhibit. Rather large and lots of waterfalls. Worth a walk through while visiting other monuments
