The National Cathedral is absolutely beautiful. It was unfortunate that it is undergoing repairs, but it still is beautiful. It wasn't on my originaly list of to see places, but I am really glad that I made it.

The architecture is unbelievable. It really is hard to believe that it was built in the early 1900's.

If you go on Sunday parking and admission is free.

Thanks for sharing some thoughts about your visit. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it, especially since a visit wasn't part of your original plans. We like to think the Cathedral has lots of wonderful surprises!

The repairs are due to the 2011 earthquake. We hope to finish repairing the ceiling inside the nave of the Cathedral within the next year. Fortunately most of the building is still visible and accessible during the work.

Just go. A true hidden treasure many people miss. Get a guided tour, far better then just wandering.

Thank you for the compliment! We might not be right on the National Mall, but we have lots of treasures to offer ... I'm glad to hear you were able to visit and enjoy! Besides, if we were right on the Mall, you wouldn't be able to get such a great view of the whole city from our Observation Gallery!

I'll pass along your comments to our docents, who will be glad to know you enjoyed your tour.

Thanks for sharing some thoughts about your recent visit. We have actually now started repairing the ceiling inside after the 2011 earthquake, but fortunately it doesn't affect the ability to tour or to visit. Most everything is still visible and accessible.

This is worth the taxi ride and the audio tour. Rich history, impressive architecture, and truly awe-inspiring stained glass and scale. Gardens are small but pleasant. Views from the tower are fantastic. Even the renovation process from the earthquake are interesting. Part of our national heritage.

Thank you for visiting and for sharing some thoughts about your experience. It sounds like you made the most of your time here! There's definitely a lot to do. I love that the audio tour provides a chance to hear music and great speakers from the history of the Cathedral, in addition to general information about the building.

I'm glad you were able to visit with us.

The tour of the National Cathedral was ok. The guide wasn't easy to hear and was a bit stingy with time to take pictures. The work ongoing to shore up the ceiling takes away from the beauty with a black scrim.

Thanks for your recent visit. I'm sorry you had a hard time hearing your docent during your tour. If you visit again, you might want to consider one of our audio tours for your own self-paced tour. As for the repair work on the ceiling, we're repairing the mortar and cleaning the stones following the 2011 earthquake. Hopefully that work will be finished within the year.
