Owner description: The Capitol is among the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the world. The Senate and the House of Representatives have met here for more than two centuries. Begun in 1793, the Capitol has been built, burnt, rebuilt, extended, and restored; today, it stands as a monument not only to its builders but also to the American people and their government.

We booked our tour the day before on the recommendation of our Signature Tour of D.C. guide and we are so happy we did. It is absolutely beautiful, and very informative. I highly recommend it!

The tour was excellent and our guide (I think his name was Brandon) was very funny and informative. He really brought the building to life, and was happy to answer any questions thrown at him. I learned a lot about the US political system and also enjoyed getting exposed to a bit of American history. We got passes for the Senate viewing gallery after the tour and got to see the Vice President in action. :)
Highly recommended. If you're a tourist in Washington, this is definitely something you should do.

To get a tour, the easiest is to book it online for free (http://www.visitthecapitol.gov/plan-visit/book-tour-the-capitol). The tour starts 10 min after the time you have reserved, allow time to get through security.
You can also just show up at the visitor center but you may have to wait some time if there are too many people.
Our group was of 12 people. After a 13 min tour, we visited the Crypt, the Rotunda, and the National Statuary Hall, it was very interesting.
There is a coat check, a store and a restaurant for tourists. After the tour, you may want to take the tunnel to goes directly to the library of Congress, where you can take a free interesting tour as well that starts on half hours.

We've always found it cool to check out other nation's house of parliament, and the Capitol Building is no different!

We strongly recommend taking the free tour as you get to see a lot of behind the scenes stuff, and also get an indepth look at the historic events in US Political History!

Our guide was tremendous, and she really knew her stuff! It was a well run, fast paced tour that really allowed you to imagine certain events taking place.
