Owner description: The Capitol is among the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the world. The Senate and the House of Representatives have met here for more than two centuries. Begun in 1793, the Capitol has been built, burnt, rebuilt, extended, and restored; today, it stands as a monument not only to its builders but also to the American people and their government.

This was my first visit to the US Capitol, it was awesome. The Visitors Center was very cool, lots of exhibits and sights to see. We did not do the guided tour, too crowded but we could still see a lot. Next time we will do the tour. The restaurant was cool and fun.

Just being in the building with so much history and wonderful architecture was amazing. The visitors center is done well.
The tour is so so. There were so many people being herded around and confusing after the movie. You get these audio headsets which is good because you would never hear the guide without them.
I would definitely recommend the tour though. Don't have high expectations to begin with and you will have a great experience. Take great pictures as the rotunda is inspiring.

We didn't have tickets in advance, but we were able to sneak in on a snowy day. We had a wonderful tour guide, who gave a parting anecdote from her experience at the Capitol on 9/11. The tour gives an interesting history of the building and early America. The building itself is breathtaking!

Going to the U.S. Capitol wasn't really on our trip itinerary but we decided to wander into through the underground tunnel from the Library of Congress (which is great) and we are so happy we did. As others have mentioned, pretty serious security (no liquids, go thru metal detectors which were turned high up), etc. so be prepared. While we did not get tour tix (next time we intend to) there was still a lot to see. Has an excellent museum and very nice gift shops. There is also a nice cafeteria with a variety of options at reasonable prices. The U.S. Capitol turned out to be one of our favorite sights in DC.
