Owner description: The Capitol is among the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the world. The Senate and the House of Representatives have met here for more than two centuries. Begun in 1793, the Capitol has been built, burnt, rebuilt, extended, and restored; today, it stands as a monument not only to its builders but also to the American people and their government.

It should go without saying that every citizen should visit the Capitol. It is a beautiful building, filled with meaningful symbols of our countries endeavors and intentions.
What many of us don't realize, however, is that while you can take a tour of the Capitol through their web site, you can also (and should!) call your Senator's office and they will have an intern give your group a tour. Just your group!
I am from New York and arranging a tour with Senator Gillibrand's office was not only easy, but her staff greeted us like we were the most important visitors to ever grace her office. Two interns guided us (there were two adults and five kids in my family) through as if they were honored to do so. They explained everything, answered all out questions happily and shared their (very positive) experiences of working for the Senator's office.
Don't hesitate to call your Senator's office for this unique opportunity.

The artwork has a lot of symbolism important to our nation. We were given a guided tour by our senator's interns (Merkely, Oregon) and they were very informative. We sat in on a Senate vote and my oldest daughter was thrilled.

We visited the capitol on the 12th of January and we loved. We loved the location, beautiful building and full of history. The famous rotunda is amazing. It is really worth going to see! Do not forget that it is necessary to schedule the visit previously. Employee very helpful and friendly.
