The short film at the beginning was very good, but after that was when we felt like nusance cattle. We were herded into specific lines in ques and given headsets. Our tour guide was very short with several people and very hard to hear on the headsets. I learned a lot, but left feeling like we had just started to scratch the surface. Worth it, but still a little disappointing.

With all the security and restrictions since 9-11 this visit was a little disappointing. There is a very limited area that you can now visit in the Capitol Building. We did take a tour but they showed very little and the tour did not allow time to actually see the areas they took you through. Also they give each guest headphones so you can listen to your tour guide as there are tour groups coming in like an assembly line. However several people in our group had headphones that did not work so it was somewhat pointless. You can get separate passes from your congress person to visit the House or Senate galleries if they are in session but they were not on the day we were there.

The people watching was almost as much fun and the place itself. The workers and Legislators coming and going. The names and Statues there to enjoy. Worth the walk.

On March 3, 1913, some 5,000-8,000 women (two different estimates) marched for the Right to Vote. The suffragists started in front of the Capitol, went down to Pennsylvania Avenue, and marched along Pennsylvania to the White House. It was organized by the Congressional Committee of NAWSA, the suffrage group. A small group of the marchers, less than 5 percent, were African-American women mainly from the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority at Howard University,, and there was a battle to allow them to march.
On March 3, 2013, I joined about 15,000 women to commemorate the march. This time the Deltas organized it and they were more than 95 percent of the marchers!
The march is enjoyable. The marchers went in front of the White House, then along to the Mall, where there was some entertainment.
It was a great recap of history. Good to walk those steps anytime. Stop at the Capitol, or the Newseum, or the White House (arrange through your Member of Congress). There are lots of places to eat along Pennsylvania Avenue.

You can't really get up to the steps but the area in front is available for all the tourists to take pictures.
It is definately a must when visiting DC.
