Sheer Madness has been a standing show at the Kennedy Center for at least 2 decades. It is a clever "whodunit" production which ingeniously engaged the audience. HOWEVER, I had not seen it in years so was taken aback by its over-the-top sexual overtones and raw commentary and suggestive gestures. Never again will I be taking any other children under 18 to this production!

We attended a performance of the play SHEAR MADNESS at the center this past Saturday evening. The performance was wonderful. The interaction with the students in the audience by the cast and their participation in the play made for a wonderful evening. The small venue made it even better. The view of DC from the Terrace was outstanding.

I have been attending performances here for 20 years now, and it's always a great experience. Even if you aren't coming here for a show, it's worth a visit (and they are frequently staging free performances in their great hall, which is nice). The Rooftop restaurant is really nice to eat at but not very kid friendly, except for the holidays, when they do brunches. It's also very expensive and you'll need reservations so book early. However, an option is also eating in the bar. We did that once; they served from the same menu. A more casual and less expensive alternative is the cafe. You don't need reservations, and they serve a variety of foods and wine too. For a short time, they were allowing people to bring drinks into some performances but they have stopped again. So, beware of buying drinks and food at intermission. By the time you get these items, you may be tossing them into the garbage bin! They have a wonderful gift shop, which has lots of unique items (especially for music and dance fans; great items if you have a young daughter who likes ballet). Parking is very pricey, and the lot can get full; I suggest you arrive early, especially on the weekends. The staff here are extremely friendly and helpful, which is nice. And one another thing. Be sure to take a stroll on the patio outside. Wonderful views! The Kennedy Center is definitely one of those places you don't want to miss when you are in DC. A great place for tourists and locals alike!

Attending the shows is always a treat. The decor is elegant and over the top. My favorite aspect is ascending to the roof top in the evening and looking out over the skyline of D.C. One of my favorite spots in the city, the vantage point never gets old.

Whether you like Opera, the Symphony, dance or theater, you'll find wonderful programs here. There are free performances daily as well. I'd advise you to dine and park away from the premises. There are several places nearby that aren't so costly. The Center will be undergoing a massive renovation shortly...I can't wait to see it finished.
