“one of my favorite dc places”

We took our 5 year old for his first concert, a Halloween concert for families. We made a mistake and thought we had 3pm tickets, turns out we had 1 pm tickets. We arrived around 2 pm and it was no problem they graciously got us into the 3 pm show. Not in the seats we purchased but that was fine with us. On the tertace level before the concert they had trick or treating for kids and lots of instruments they could try. The concert itself was very fun and all the muscians were in costume. Afterwards they had a q&a with the conductor which was quite funny given some of the questions from kids. There are drink vending machines one level below the lobby level and they are much cheaper than upstairs. Also, if you go on a sun afternoon, it is possible to find close enough street parking. The garage is around $20.

Visiting the Kennedy is always a special and magical experience. Having now seen several operas and South Pacific at the Kennedy Center's Opera House, I found it was a great place for my first experience with real, Broadway-worthy theatrical productions. The opera house at the larger-than-life Kennedy Center is a must-see, with the crystal chandelier from Austria and the lush surroundings. Not bad for 1970s decor!

Also, the Washington Opera (which is the opera based in the Kennedy Center) offers discounts to those under the age of 30 through "Generation O," to which you can subscribe for free. This is a great way to expose younger audiences to the beauty of opera. I had never attended opera until a friend dragged me kicking and screaming to the Kennedy Center ("No, no, I don't want to sit through an opera!") and now I'm hooked. Bravo to the brilliant performances and gorgeous theater.

Since parking in DC is a challenge, I suggest carpooling to the center and simply chipping in together on the parking garage. It is worth minimizing the stress.

“Millenium Stage Free Concerts a Must See”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

I took a tip from the TripAdvisor forum and decided to check out a free concert at the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage while vacationing in DC. The free concert featured accomplished saxophonist Brian Settles. The crowd for this event was ecclectic mix from all walks of life. This is definately a family friendly event from grandpa to the grandkids. The facility is beautiful and the musical concerts are well worth the trip. Check the Kennedy Center website to see which artist is performing during your visit and make this a must see event. You can't beat the price or the experience.

Reviewed October 24, 2012

Multiple stages, multiple types of performances from orchestral, to Broadway to rock and roll! dancing to live music several times each year, kids programs, and VERY fun small programs in the small theater labs upstairs.

The place is huge elegant and fun!

Dress is Black Tie to Jeans depending upon why you are there.

Arrive early so you can take a walking tour!

Way too much to mention all here so go to their web site and enjoy!!!

“Impressive Place!”

We went to both a free play and the play Whistle in the Dark there and thought both were very good. We also ate at the Terrace Cafe which was good and fairly reasonably priced.
