From jazz to dance, the programming is great. The New York CIty Ballet was preforming. This Center is a shrine to American culture. I think of Mrs. Kennedy and her wanting to showcase the best of American talent when I go there to see a performance. The structure has clean lines and the seating is comfortable. Tickets easy to obtain via the Internet or at the box office.

The Kennedy Center hosts the National Symphony, the National Opera, major stage productions, ballet, etc. Accommodations are very good. The architecture and decor are less than appealing to this reviewer, but its merits as a center for the arts is undeniable.

We went on April 7 to see the free 6pm performance at the Millenium Stage. We arrived at 5:45 and all the seats were taken. I was surprised to find out that the free stage is setup in a hallway, with very limited seating. I did enjoy walking around the Terrace on the top level, but it's not worth visiting just for that. On a side note, the shuttle service to/from Foggy Bottom was really nice. We didn't have to wait at either location, there was always a shuttle waiting.

We went on a night tour around Washington D.C. and one of the stops was at the Kennedy Center. We walked around inside but the real show was when we went to the roof. There was really strong thunder and lightning while we were out there. It was pretty awesome but probably not too safe. Pretty cool to see the lightning and rain against the Washington Monument.

The cherry blossoms were in full bloom the week of March 20th... a wonderful surprise to us due to an unusually warm winter. Rain was forecast, and the last day of sunshine was the day we had scheduled a congressional tour of the Kennedy Center. Strolling the crowded sidewalks of the tidal basin took all of our energy that day. Fast forward 2 days to our last day in DC. We regretted missing the Kennedy Center tour but I suggested we try and get tickets to a play that Sunday afternoon before dinner in Georgetown. I tried the Ticketplace website but we were so late it referred us to call the box office... We bought discount rush tickets to "Shear Madness" and it made us laugh until we cried. At intermission, we went out on the terrace to see the spectacular view and ponder the question..."Who done it?" It was an unexpected highlight of our 5 days to see the center on our own, walk the red carpet that so many honored have been, watch performers on the Millennium stage and see the showcases of Jackie Kennedy's treasures.
