The winners of the craft competition are world class. The building itself is beautiful! All for free and in walking distance to the white house.

The Renwick is right by the White House and is always worth a quick trip. Visit the "Game Fish" or the "Ghost Clock" or whatever they have on tour. You'll be glad you made the stop.

Beautiful architecture, right near the white house, unique exhibitions and intimate space. One of my favorite museums...

Having just experienced the Inauguration the day before, I returned to DC to pick up a few souvenirs. Shopped-out and tired, but still wanting to experience excellent art, I stopped in the Renwick, for a breather. It was PERFECT! I was able to slowly, casually and thoroughly enjoy the entire gallery in under 2 hours. This included the permanent collection on the second floor and the featured collection celebrating the gallery's 40th anniversary on the first floor. The first floor exhibit included works of art by 40 artists under 40. I won't describe the art (and crafts). I can say the gallery was a breath of fresh air in a potentially overcrowded and rushed DC tourist-day. Easy to overlook or skip, this gallery included something for everyone including children...from portraits and oils to a totally knitted room.

Try it. You'll love it!

This a a gallery in Washington DC that is part of the Smithsonian, but off hte beaten track, and in a restored older building. We loved the '40 under 40 Craft futures' exhibit, but that is only there temporarily. The second floor of the building has lots of different forms of art on display which are very interesting and well worth a visit.
