Owner description: Not just a park in the city, but a kind of leisurely museum, with a scattering of Civil War forts, a cemetery and a 19th-century mill within its bounds.

“Washington's Central Park”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

Does any other CITY in this country have such a SPECTACULAR park at their disposal, providing an escape from the DC area's daily hustle and bustle?

Rock Creek runs from suburban MD through NW DC and on to the Potomac. The land around the creek was made a public park in the 19th century and it used to house a bunch of mills - one of which is still standing (just a touch of history for ya!). On the weekends and holidays much of the road that runs through the park is closed to car traffic. For that reason, the park is hugely popular with city escapists looking to exercise (all the scenery makes the time pass in a much nicer way). It is also a great place to picnic, hike on the trails or just to sit and enjoy your surroundings.

“Great Impromptu Picnic Area”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

A few years ago, I hosted a large impromptu picnic here for my husband's birthday. We found a lot (they do not allow you to reserve the normal lots - only the covered pavilions) that included a charcoal grill (slightly busted, but doable), 2 picnic tables, and a great amount of space to play bocce and other yard games. There was plenty of parking on the side of the road. I've been to numerous picnics here - most notably for the 4th of July and have never had problems finding space. There are public restrooms throughout the park, walking/biking trails, and, if you don't get caught, a nice creek to stick your feet in.

Nature flows through a city in magical ways. look up at wonderful bridges( far nicer than D.C. to Virginia bridges), great spots for cookouts, and long walks through lush forest.

“Stunning park in Heart of DC”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

Be careful if you are driving yourself around this large park without a GPS, as it is very easy to get lost! At least you will be lost in a beautiful setting in the heart of DC.

“Escape from the City”
Reviewed December 12, 2012

Rock Creek Park is a beautiful and isolated oasis in the middle of the big metro area of Washington, DC. It's great for a run or bike ride and time of the year. It lets you escape from the noisy, busy city without having to venture too far away!
