-Lacking amenities normally found in a four star hotel - no iron, no ironing board, no bath tub, no fridge, no microwave, no newspaper, no bathrobe
I was really looking forward to staying here, but have been continuously disappointed since I checked in. When I arrived, the staff watched from inside the hotel lobby as I struggled with my luggage, no one came to help open the door. When I arrived, I went to the front desk to check in, there were three staff members standing around talking, including one who had just returned with an ice cream cone that she was eating in the lobby. After waiting, one of the staff members finally turned to me and asked if I wanted to check in. I indicated that I did and handed her my credit card and ID. She walked me over to the lobby kiosk and proceeded to swipe my card and sign me in. I told her I had two separate reservations (one business, one personal) and wanted to be sure I would be in the same room for both reservations. She seemed annoyed and walked back behind the desk and ensured that I would be in the same room for both, which took quite a while. When she was done, she handed me a card and didn't say anything, so I asked how to get to my room and she just pointed to the elevators. Already off to a bad start for a place claiming to be a four star hotel, and charging $250 a night.
I went up to the room, opened the door, and was shocked to find myself in a dark, tiny room, with a full bed, and windows looking clearly into an office building next door. I went back downstairs and requested a standard size room, which I had booked, not a tiny "club" room. The woman at the desk said that they were fully booked that evening and that she couldn't move me - they put me in a lower-tier room without asking or apologizing. I told her I could not stay in that room, between the size and the total lack of privacy, I implored that there must be another room somewhere else in the hotel. She told me she could move me to another "club" room on the other side of the building facing the street, to at least get some privacy, and then they could move me to a larger room the next morning. I was tired from a full day of traveling and said okay. The room she moved me to was dirty, with food from the last guest in the bedside table, water stains, and poorly-maintained bathroom fixtures. I went to iron my clothes for a meeting the next day, only to find that this FOUR STAR BUSINESS TRAVELERS hotel did not have an iron. I repeat, NO IRON.
I went to bed, woke up the next morning, packed up my suitcase and left everything ready to be moved to a new room. When I returned that night, I stopped at the front desk to see which room I had been moved to. The young man at the desk said that I was still in the same room. I told him that I was supposed to be moved, and he said, "yeah, there's a note about that in here, but no one moved you." So he tried to do it himself, and after several full minutes of trying and failing, invited another employee over to help him. Finally, they assigned me to a new room, gave me a key, and told me that they would bring my luggage over. I went up to the room, and it was right back to the same type of room I had the first time, looking into an office building, only this time on a lower floor. They brought my bag over promptly. I couldn't believe it - third try and all of them had been terrible.
The next morning I was woken up by the sound of dumpsters being emptied directly below my room. After that point, I decided to cancel the personal reservation I had made there was was able to book a room at a Kimpton Hotel in the neighborhood for substantially less.
The DC Club Quarters is expensive, tiny, dirty, the staff are rude, the club room is filthy, and there are no amenities to speak of. I was so excited to come here, but have been appalled by how terrible it is, and I have been sure to tell every person I've met with to avoid this place at all costs.
