Well locked, the hotel is charming and elegant. The restaurant and bar area are stunning and the bar food and the dining room are both first rate. The rooms can be small, but adqequiate, but many are spacious with good views. The decorating and design are gracious and the staff is first rate.

The hotel and staff are great! They were very accommodating to our needs. The Housekeeping Department was especially accommodating. Although in a "BIG" metropolitan city, I felt very much at home and very comfortable at the hotel.

Got an amazing deal for a long weekend stay as a Kimpton Intouch Member. The Hotel is well located and has a typical Kimpton Flair. Like all Kimpton's the service is amazing and very accomodating. A few little flaws however. The shower rods in my room (719) were rusted and needed a touch up. Unlike other Kimpton's they didn't have complimentary coffee in the morning or a wine reception on the weekends. All in all though a very pleasant stay.

I am frequently in Washington DC for business and occasionally for pleasure and I always return to the Hotel George. The service is unmatched, the location is convenient to the Capitol, Union Station, and multiple government offices. An added bonus -- the restaurant is excellent.

My wife and I stayed two nights at Hotel George in November. We arrived in DC by train and were happy to find it only a five minute walk from the station. Even though It sits on a quiet street, it is within a reasonable walk of many major attractions.

Our room was bright, clean and spacious. The main room had two large windows and the marble-lined bathroom had a third. Furnishings were tasteful without being hotel-room bland.

When we had difficulties with the in-room movie system, a technician was sent up right away and a bottle of wine soon followed to make up for what was actually a very minor inconvenience.

We stayed at this hotel in early October of 2010. The staff was great, the location was very convenient, and the rooms were pretty nice, except for a couple of issues:

1. When we arrived, the shower wasn't draining. A call got this resolved quickly.
2. The shower was not terribly clean and had some apparent mildew. This is a pet peeve of mine and should be something quickly fixed with some Tilex, but maybe it was deeper staining, who knows?
3. AND THIS IS THE BIGGIE: We were in room 217. We noticed upon check-in there was a food smell in the air. We chalked it up to someone having ordered room service. The first night wasn't too bad but there was always this odor. The second night, my wife and I were both awakened at about 2am by the most horrible smell of rotten food. Rotten French food. From the restaurant downstairs taking out the trash? I don't know for sure, but I can tell you that, had I known my wife was also being repeatedly awakened, we would have requested a different room right then because it was nauseating. I looked out the next morning and noticed that the room is right above the dumpsters, so maybe the A/C was bringing in air from the outisde.

Anyway, we reported the odor to the front desk the next day and were moved to a "better" room, although we couldn't see much difference other than it was slightly larger and the bathroom seemed in worse repair. They also comped us a bottle of Cabernet. Cheap but drinkable and much appreciated. As I said, the staff was GREAT.

The upshot? DO NOT STAY IN ROOM 217!!! Other than that, a decent hotel.

General Manager, Christopher Cannon: Thank you for your recognition of our great staff and service at the George. I am very sorry that you were inconvenienced during your stay over a month ago and appreciate the feed back. The AC units do not pull air from the outside but I am investigating the odor you mentioned and will address the issue with my engineering team to resolve should we find a problem. Please let me know when you return so I can personally look after your next stay.

Main area of hotel was nice, but rooms need a bit of updating...I'm not sure if all rooms are the same, but ours seemed outdated and there were stains on the comforter. The hotel is in a great location to Union Station and the Hop On/Off buses for the tours of the city. Irish bar around the corner is good for drinks, but the food is "ok"...the guy at the front desk who checked us in was extremely good and very helpful.
