“Great Experience!”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

My boyfriend and I just stayed at Hotel George this past Labor Day weekend visiting from New York City. We stayed in room 304, a Deluxe King and brought our Mini-Dachshund, Winnie along. I broke down my review to make it easier to read.

SERVICE:
AH-mazing service! Even before we checked-in, I had emailed the management, letting them know this was our first time and if they had any suggestions for things to do. The Guest Service Agent, Edgardo imiedately responded letting me know he had an envelope waiting for us with tickets to the Holocaust Museum, printed out directions for The Smithsonian and some other tourist information. I thought that was really classy.

Check-in was really smooth and very friendly. We didnt get to the hotel until 11pm EST at night. They had a doggy bag full of treats and toy for our dog. Because we were driving a Hybrid, our valet fee was waived. So cool! The restaurant was closed already and we mentioned we were hungry so take out menu's were given to us.Valet service was always super fast and we never waited more than 10 minutes.

In short, the staff really went above & beyond. From the General Manager to the Valet, service was top notch.

LOBBY & ROOM:
I posted pictures of our room and lobby. The lobby and sitting area was very clean. They even had a wii system to play on which was random but I loved.

I'm very torn about the room. First off when we arrived they, had a fruit and cheese with a bottle of wine and a personal written note from the management. A great way to start of the weekend and was very thoughtful.

I wouldnt say the room decor was luxury but it was nice and the furniture in good shape. Pretty plain but comfortable bed. The bathroom was clean and I enjoyed having the bathtub and step-in shower option.

My ONLY complaint with the room was the carpet. Keeping in mind that this is a dogfriendly hotel, I'm not uber upset about this but it definitely needed a good shampooing. Stains all over and it kind of smelled. Vacuuming wont be enough. I would suggest installing wood flooring but I know that can be quite costly. I just think it would be less icky as I didnt want to walk on it without socks.

LOCATION:
I totally see the purpose for having this hotel here when Congress is in session and businesses opened but for us the locationed was horrible. The hotel is next to Union Sation which is nice but there are ZERO restaurants or night life near-by past 11pm. It's our fault though for not doing better research on where we wanted to stay. We had breakfast at the restaurant only once. Quite expensive but what you can expect from a hotel restaurant. Service was great and friendly. No complaints.

All in all, it was great experience at the hotel and we would recommend it to anyone looking to stay in that location.

Delayed by flight changes and a long bus ride from BWI to DC, we hoped the hotel would be all that it claimed to be. From the second that we stepped out at the front door and a smiling face grabbed our bags, i knew it would be good. Front desk was fast, happy and gave us an immediate upgrade to help with the long day of travel. The room was quiet and the bed was comfortable. We were only in DC for 2 nights to attend a function and it was perfect, great location, easy access to the sites of DC, capital hill and the reflecting pool are a comfortable walk away and having taken a nightmare bus ride from BWI we decided on the advise of the front desk to take the train back. (Union station is a 2 min walk from The George), so easy it topped off our experience in DC and ensured that we would stay with the George again. Great place, great staff and perfect location

Room Tip: The king room was awesome

This hotel is close to the capital and also a really easy walk to Union Station. It is an easy walk to Penn Quarter and also the Eastern Market. It is a very Nice Kimpton and I would stay again. The rooms are a little on the small side, but the are still very pleasant.

Hotel located a few minutes walk from Union Station and easy walking distance to some of the tourist spots and museums. This also includes the "hop on/off" tour buses which are an excellent way of getting out to such places as Arlington and Georgetown.

Room was spacious (2 queen beds - 2 adults and a 15 year old), clean and the beds were very comfortable. Staff were very helpful and we were very impressed with the barman who certainly knew his wines and cocktails.

Had a meal in the hotel's restaurant on one night and in the bar another and found the food to be of very good quality.

Overall, good choice and should we ever visit Washington again would definitely consider staying here.

I'm a fan of Kimptons, but have mostly stayed in their larger hotels. DC has a bunch of boutique-sized Kimptons, and a holiday weekend was a good time to try one out.

This one is a little on the quiet side, with a smallish "living room". Rooms are average sized with everything in good repair. The bed was on the firm side (some may not like). I disliked the thin foam pillows.

Service is impeccable as usual for Kimpton. We arrived too late for the wine hour, but were offered a glass on check-in anyway. The end of hallway room on the 6th floor had little view, but was nice and quiet.

The George is 2 blocks from Union Station, a very easy/safe walk. A few blocks south is the Capitol. It's about a $5 taxi ride (or ~1 mile walk) to the high density of restaurants and bars around the Verizon Center, which is my usual "going out" area. Lots of choices.

Raid-the-minibar for KImpton loyalty members is a nice touch (a likely inexpensive gesture of goodwill, plus it makes those of us who would never use the minibar suddenly pay attention to it). Though you do still have to pay DC's 10% mini-bar tax on the raided amount.

Off-season specials make the George and other Kimpton properties occasionally very inexpensive, and it's worth taking advantage of them to try out a new hotel. Recommended.

Love Kimpton properties, this hotel was fine and the location is great being walking distance from Union Station (just 2 blocks) - the restaurant downstairs was quite good as well. Bed was comfortable and room was quiet, seemed like the property is due for a renovation though and I believe it may happen in the near future. Solid Kimpton hotel.

Travelled with my husband and 5 yr old daughter. Had a double queen room - adequate size with good facilities. Cold drinks in reception and wine early evening for the grown ups. Valet parking $52 p night including taxes - in-out privileges. Never had to wait for the car - called down and by the time we got downstairs the car was always ready.
Had dinner at 6.30pm one night at Bistro Bis. Excellent meal. We had duck, pork chops (both cooked perfectly), and salmon, (my 5 yr olds meal which she ate all of and loved). The wine was excellent. Within easy walking distance to a lot of sights and museums. Two minutes to Union Station (good to get subway to the Zoo!). Would highly recommend and stay again.
