“Posh little hotel, Best for couples... but young families may wish to be near the National Mall”
Reviewed March 15, 2012

If my husband and I return to DC, we will stay at the Hotel George. With young kids, however, we will opt to be closer to the Mall. It is a bit of a distance and drive to get to the main areas, and this is a sweet little swanky hotel that caters to an upscale crowd on business. If you do bring kids here, you will still have a great time, but for convenience... its just easier to be closer to the tourist spots if you are squeezing in nap and snack times in your schedule.

The service was excellent. The front desk was extremely helpful. The valet/bell man was very cordial and efficient. The rooms were clean and comfortable. You MUST stop by Bistro Bis while here. No complaints... Hotel George is an excellent choice for business or a romantic weekend in the Capital.

The George specializes in friendly, competent service. From the time you arrive until the time you leave, you'll feel as if you've been singled out for special treatment. Combine this with a location very near Capitol Hill, and a very good restaurant adjacent to the property - The Bistro Bis - and you have an excellent D.C. hotel experience.

From the moment you enter this small hotel, you'll be overwhelmed at the level of service. From the bellman, to the front desk staff, housekeeping, to the EXCELLENT Bistro Bis restaurant next door, the people who work at this property seem absolutely preoccupied with making your stay comfortable and happy.

Too bad the property itself simply cannot live up to the people who work there. The place is claustrophobically small! My wife and I like cozy places, but this place is simply too small...no other way to say it. There's also an issue with location: it's only a block away from the main DC homeless shelter and while we didn't have any issues with it, we sure weren't comfortable walking past there at night.

It's absolutely immaculately clean, however. Our bed also could have used an upgrade as it was noisy and lumpy and the carpet in our room was a bit worn as well. The bathroom was nice, but I had an issue with the toiletries: for this level of property, you shouldn't have to dispense your shower soap, shampoo, and conditioner out of the same type of wall mounted pumps like you've got at your local YMCA! A bit classless, if you ask me.

The location was great if you're looking to work at the Capitol and/or need to be towards the East end of the National Mall. It's also a very easy walk to the Chinatown area and all the associated shops/restaurants. Finally, the Bistro Bis attached to the hotel was top-notch! A bit expensive, but GREAT food and service - highly recommend you eat there at least once.

Overall, a very solid property, but the $388 per night we paid - we feel - was far too much.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing E Street or you'll be looking at nothing from the window...

I always to stay at the George when I'm in DC. The rooms are really nice: great sheets and bathrooms. The staff is extremely responsive. And if you're a Kimpton in touch person, which is free to join, you get free Internet and a $10 credit for the minibar.

The best rooms are the ones ending in, say 03 to 08: those are the rooms looking out over E Street. Some of the other rooms can be a little dark, but if you want quiet might be a tad better.

The hotel restaurNt, Bistro Bis, is phenomenal, especially for a power breakfast.

I would stay at the George always, if J could, but I've never seen a hotel where the room rates vary so dramatically.

Room Tip: See my tip in my write up.

My daughter and her family live in DC, so we visit often. After our last visit, I won't be looking for a hotel anymore, as the George was perfect. Friendly, staff, nice rooms, a fine restaurant and easy parking. What more do you want?

I stayed at the Hotel George last week while attending a conference nearby. I was pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness of the room. The interior of both the room and also the public spaces have been relatively recently redone, and the hotel has a "new" feel about it even though the building itself is several decades old. Everything worked exactly as it should (in the bathroom. etc.) and, for my purposes, I found it particularly helpful to have both a couch and also a comfortable workspace to get some work done in the room.

The location is good, about five minutes from Union Station (and the metro from the airport) not too far from the Capitol. Many restaurants are within easy reach.

The staff was pleasant and friendly. All in all, this hotel was just about everything I'd want in a place to stay for an event or tourism in Washington, at a seemingly competitive price.
