Our Washington DC vacation could have been a disaster with the shut down but it was a wonderful experience in part due to our stay at Cardozo house. The home is lovely and decorated with fantastic African masks and sculpture. Our arrival was easy and parking was convenient. We did not meet our host but everything was as expected. Our room was lovely, clean and homey. We had the use of a refrigerator in our room and could use the kitchen, dining room and living room as we liked. We had breakfast in the dining room with food we bought at the Whole Foods just blocks away, so there was no problem that this home did not include breakfast, better for us because we were not constrained by a meal schedule and could get out early. it was in a fantastic neighborhood with shops, restaurants, clubs and other great atmosphere but also a 45 minute stroll from the Mall and all of the (closed) attractions there. We wouldn't do Washington any other way than by B&B and Cardozo house was equal to others we have stayed at, the lack of a served breakfast did not make a difference to us at all. If you need to be pampered then a hotel is probably the route for you, but if you want to experience the "real" Washington neighborhoods and lifestyle, B&B is the best way to do it and Cardozo house was a gem.

it is pretty a nice warm house. A/C works well, through the window you could see a small garden and it is located in a relatively quiet place.
The living room decorated with arts and looks amazingly beautiful.
Everything is clean and well organized. The host is really friendly who allow us to checkin earlier and leave the luggage at home after check out.
Coffee and drink water are provided.

Close to train station. Rideaid is just in the corner of the street and you can easily get access to pizzahut and other cheap, good restaurants.

We stay here a few nights in July. The aparment is very well located and is only a five minute walk to the U street Metro station. The house is clean and well furnished. The bathroom had plenty of towels, soap, and wash clothes. We rented one of the rooms with a shared bathroom and it was very nice especially the first two nights we were alone. The walls are very thin and if you are staying in one of the ones with a shared bathroom you will hear literally everything going on in the next room.(pray you don't have a couple getting romantic next door) My biggest complaints are the thin walls and the fact that we were offered new bedding for the 5 nights we were there. Overall it is a great deal, I would stay here again, but would probably get the upstairs room that has no neighbors. It is decorated interesting with African masks and fertility statues throughout. Overall a good deal if you don't mind the noise.

First, the location is great - close to the metro (yellow and green lines) and direct connection to Ronald Reagan Airport, as well as bus lines. We stayed in the Pembroke room for 8 nights. There was no fridge (the only room without one), but we were told we could use the downstairs fridge. Our room was next to the bathroom, and yes, we were woken up by other guests taking showers. Some nights, the B&B seemed full, other nights we were the only ones in the house.

It's a great value but it is more of a self-serve place. We made our own breakfast, bought groceries and prepare salads for dinner (DC regulations do not allow you to cook in the kitchen). The nearest grocery store is a Whole Foods, a bit pricey but certainly cheaper than eating out. A lot of good restaurants in the area, whose menus were provided in the living room.

The Pembroke room was at the back of the house, so we were further from the street noise. On the weekends, the neighborhood is a lively bar scene.

It does feel like you're staying in someone's home who's away on vacation. Our room and bed were comfortable, and we felt safe.

If you bring your laptop, you can access the wifi network (password provided).

NB: this is not a handicapped-accessible building.

Kathleen, one of the owners, came into town the morning we left. Once she heard of metro delays due to construction, she offered to drive us to the airport. Really kind and helpful!

If you want luxury and personal attention, you'll need to look elsewhere and pay more. If you want a comfortable, clean place to stay and are self-sufficient, I highly recommend Cardozo Guesthouse.

I've stayed here several times. If you don't mind a shared bath, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better deal in D.C. (There's a room with its own bath, but I haven't stayed in that one.) Great location, easy Metro access (on same Metro line as National airport), clean and comfortable.

Some reviews commented on noise from other guests. I've never had a problem with that, but I reserve the small bedroom that shares a wall only with the bathroom (and I'm not particularly sensitive to noise).

Bed & Breakfast D.C.is great to deal with for this house and the other properties they book -- very helpful and responsive.

My husband and I went to DC for a 2 night anniversary get-away. We stumbled on this place after finding all our hotel options were expensive or had scary reviews. I am glad the other options were so bad as it led us to the Cardozo Guest House and our stay could not have been better. The guest house is nicely decorated, clean, and in a great location. They send you very detailed instructions prior to arrival and the house is easy to find following their directions. We stayed in the Norwell (the upstairs suite) and loved the spacious room and beautiful bathroom. I am not sure I'd be comfortable sharing a bathroom with strangers so if you are like me I'd recommend the Norwell. The variety of K-cups provided (a coffee machine is in the room) and mini-fridge were very nice touches that made our stay more comfortable. Though we mostly stayed in our room while in the house, the house is very clean and the high ceilings throughout were georgous.

I don't think anyone else was staying here while we were so I can't comment on how noisy it would get but the Norwell is on the top floor and so we felt like it was nicely secluded. We did see the housekeeper, Mary, both days we were there. She is very friendly and does a great job keeping the house in shape.

The location can't be beat- lots of restaurants and shops nearby and a couple blocks to the metro. We went to the 9;30 club for a concert and walked there and back. The neighborhood a few blocks over is a little sketchy only late at night but the street of the guesthouse seems safe. We did park our car at the house and there are 2 spots (you reserve one prior to arrival if you want one) that would be tight with a larger car. We were very happy to park our car on arrival and not have to move it until we left.

All in all this is a great find and also a great value! I would recommend the Norwell (or I believe there is an efficiency in the basement) if you prefer a lot of privacy. I hope to stay here on future trips to DC!

This house was gorgeous, with a perfect location for me to see the sights of washington without once needing to go on the metro. The walk to the tourist locations was scattered with restaurants and coffee shops and everything you would need for a stay! The house itself was clean and comfortable with a spacious bathroom which remained clean throughout the stay (even though it was shared)! Check in instructions were very clear and helpful and it was so cheap!!! I was surprised when I arrived to find the house was even nicer than the photos described! The housekeeper was lovely and they allowed us to keep our baggage in the house because our flights were not till later in the evening! If you want a chilled stay in washington this is the place to go! I would recommend to everyone!
