Description: Founding Farmers, the Greenest Restaurant in DC, is owned by the more than 40,000 family farmers of the NDFU, serving American inspired real food and drink with an emphasis and focus on cooking from scratch. While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn't mean we know every farm, and that doesn't mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we're working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values. We're serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.

I can't stress enough making a reservation, this place books up fast and while we were waiting we heard the hostess tell people walking in that it would be an hour and a half wait without a reservation. On top of that, despite having a reservation at 8:30pm on a Saturday, it took us about 30 minutes to be seated. With that said, the manager came over, apologized and offered us an appetizer on the house. I understand things don't always go as planned but just a small recognition of the customer's inconvenience is really all it takes to make up for it.

After we were seated, we ordered bacon wrapped dates to start, the farmer's salad, chicken & waffles, the seafood show stopper, and the scallops. The bacon wrapped dates were delicious--honestly, how can you go wrong with these? The farmer's salad was extremely fresh. I remember biting into different components feeling like I'd never eaten anything so fresh and this feeling continued through the rest of the meal. The scallops were delicious (and again fresh) but the portion was a little pathetic. Don't order this as an entree thinking you will get full. The seafood show stopper was good but wasn't stopping anyone's show in flavor but again, it was super fresh. The chicken and waffles was the table favorite and the mac and cheese (one of the two sides you choose) was so satisfying. For dessert we ordered the carrot cake which was good but the cake to frosting ratio was a little off for us (way too much frosting). Overall, the service was fantastic, the food was remarkably fresh and I can't wait to explore some more items on their menu.

These folks do it all right. Food, service and value are all there. It gets loud at bar time. And crowded.

So glad we came here as the place looks nothing from the outside, almost like an office block but when you enter you are instantly hit by noise, hustle and bustle! The restaurant is uber trendy with a great central bar serving fabulous cocktails. I booked in advance after reading the trip advisor reviews and definitely worth pre booking as it's busy. Service was excellent and really friendly and the food was awesome, all home cooked using wonderful ingredients. I had the butternut squash ravioli and it was the nicest ravioli I've ever tasted. The shrimp bucatini was incredible as was the burger and gnocchi. We had no starters or desserts as we were stuffed and couldn't finish what we ordered. I thought the bill was really reasonable given what we ordered. We also had a cocktail at the bar before dinner which was great. Would definitely recommend if you are visiting DC.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! I have only been here for lunch. The Prime Rib Dip is nothing short of amazing! The skillet cornbread is also amazing! I have had the popcorn of the day a couple of times...yummy. A friend of mine had the fried green tomatoes and was not impressed. Food is a little pricey for lunch but you won't be disappointed! Great atmosphere! Be sure to make a reservation or you may not get in!

This restaurant was a disappointment. The service was good, the waitresses were all efficient and very polite.
I read the reviews and expected a restaurant that pays sincere attention to the flavour of food.
But everything was sweet, including the green beans. If a green bean is a good green bean it certainly does not need added sugar. Out of four courses the corn bread was the star. The fried green tomatoes were so tasteless, no tomato all batter, that they were returned. And to be fair to the restaurant they refunded these.
The fried chicken had flavour but was not outstanding and ditto the steak. But the veg were a disgrace. And even the chicken batter was sweet.
Sadly I cannot recommend this restaurant. And there is clearly still a space in the restaurant market in DC for really good, farm fresh, carefully sourced food, without added sugar
