Description: Founding Farmers, the Greenest Restaurant in DC, is owned by the more than 40,000 family farmers of the NDFU, serving American inspired real food and drink with an emphasis and focus on cooking from scratch. While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn't mean we know every farm, and that doesn't mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we're working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values. We're serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.

This place is great! The menu is an eclectic mix of southern style cuisine with a big city twist. The chicken and waffles is one of the best dishes on the menu and you MUST try them! This is one of our favorite places to eat and we are overdue for a visit. You absolutely must eat here.

The food is all freshly made there, the selection is great, service is fabulous and they have a wonderfully diverse beer selection. Reservations are recommended, but you can get in without one. The decor adds to everything, make it a wonderful experience

We will definitely go there again, given another chance!!We are a family of 3 and found our first time experience very satisfactory. We had reserved a table upon learning that they are very busy - reservations are advisable. We were served with lovely smiling and energetic staff. The food was excellent, scrumptious and the portions huge!! My son ordered "Chicken pot pie" which he relished till the next day!!! The dessert was the icing on the cake!!!! Yummy chocolate mousse in a monstrously huge bowl!!! The only thing I was uncomfortable with was it was a little too cold and a bit noisy! Thank you Founding Farmers to make our evening in Washington DC memorable.

We went to Founding Farmers and had a wonderful meal, from drinks through dessert. Our booth setting was comfortable and provided a view of all the other happy diners. Drinks were creative and so good: La Paloma is a spicy, more delicious version of a margarita and El Presidente is a sort of rum punch. But both have a unique flavor to them and aren't too potent. We shared the ricotta, pistachio and dates flatbread appetizer which was excellent. What a crazy combo of flavors, but it works! The daily catch was trout, grilled and served with a couple of side dishes including a delicious squash puree. But if you are a vegetarian, you must try the cauliflower steak meal. It was an excellent blend of spice and crunch and left me trying to figure out how to re-create it at home. I don't think I'll pull it off. There were small pieces of jalapeno in the coating, which really gave it some flavor. Butternut barley risotto, grilled crispy onions and grilled broccolini rounded out the full plate of food. Would definitely order the same thing again. We decided to share the chocolate hazelnut mousse for two. It's big enough for four or more! Light, creamy mousse topped with whipped creme and caramel drizzles all served in a huge bowl. Make sure everyone around the table has a spoon for digging into this! Our server was charming and helpful and efficient. This is a fantastic restaurant, and up about four long blocks from the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue, for any tourists in town who want to sample local cuisine provided by local farmers. You'll be glad you did. I am definitely returning to Founding Farmers!

Nice & trendy restaurant located in downtown DC. Couldn't get reservations but popped in on a whim and they immediately sat all 7 of us upstairs in a booth. The decor is beautiful and farm market themed- check out the bathroom when your there too, its really cool- and the atmosphere is great. Our server was really nice but really busy, I think she had too many tables, sometimes it was hard to find her. She suggested the house made vanilla soda, which was sooo good, I wish they bottled it & I had one right now. The appetizers were pretty good, but the salad dressing was amazing, I had to ask for more because there was hardly any on our salads. I had the pot roast which was great and chocolate mousse cake for dessert with homemade ice cream. Wonderful meal & reasonably priced. (5 adults and 2 kids for under $260 with tip) We'll be back!
