Description: Founding Farmers, the Greenest Restaurant in DC, is owned by the more than 40,000 family farmers of the NDFU, serving American inspired real food and drink with an emphasis and focus on cooking from scratch. While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn't mean we know every farm, and that doesn't mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we're working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values. We're serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.

“Take out... Yum!”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

My husband and ordered dinner to go (it was a 2 1/2 hour wait if you wanted to eat in!) We tried the chicken pot pie and fried chicken salad, both were delicious but the the chicken pot pie was amazing! Large menu with lots of options. Cool vibe in the restaurant, laid back southern style, next time we are in the area we will definitely make a reservation and have a full meal there.

We have gone several times as we visit our daughter in DC!
The produce is local, fresh and so wonderful!
The beef, fish and poultry are raised "properly" and the food is always so terrific!

“Unique and Lively”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

We went to Founding Farmers on Monday 3/25/13 and we found it was like most restaurants on Friday night. Glad we had reservations. We did wait a short while for a table but did end up getting one go the big booths right off the bar. This added to the noise but the whole restaurant is open and this adds to the ambiance.

Our server was wonderful and she told us the story behind Founding Farmers. We got the bacon pops and corn bread appetizers. They were out of the wine we originally ordered but suggested a great replacement. Our entrees were very good and all were on the healthy portion size.

Two in the party went for the red velvet cake. It was enough for all four of us to sample. One of the members of our party said it was the best red velvet cake she had ever had.

“The Hipster restaurant!”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

Very crowded, but only a 30 minute wait without a reservation. We enjoyed a cocktail from the energetic bartender. Food was imaginative and fun-bacon lollys?! Gotta try them! Flavored popcorn? Why not. It's a fun place with delicious food. We're a little of the older generation, but enjoyed the great food, fun atmosphere and conscientious farm to table food.

“Great meals for breakfast and dinner”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

Heard some great things about the restaurant and tried it for breakfast. The chicken and waffles was great, but from the looks of everyone's plate around us, it all looked delicious. We had to try it for dinner too since that was what was getting all the rave reviews. We would definitely go back next time we were in DC.
