Description: Founding Farmers, the Greenest Restaurant in DC, is owned by the more than 40,000 family farmers of the NDFU, serving American inspired real food and drink with an emphasis and focus on cooking from scratch. While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn't mean we know every farm, and that doesn't mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we're working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values. We're serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.

“Anniversary Lunch”
Reviewed November 30, 2012

Since we have a small kid and our anniversary was weekday we decided to celebrate with a lunch date. Founding Farmers is a great restaurant supports local farmers, which is a fantastic mission. The food was great, prices for lunch time were like dinner pricing. I don’t think there is a separate menu. The service was below average for the price they charge. I will go again since the food was very good.

“All Local and Very Good”
Reviewed November 30, 2012

Took a friend visiting from France so she could experience a great meal. We both loved the food and the service was wonderful. I wasn't a big fan of the "popcorn of the day", but it was clear that many other diners enjoyed it.

“Girls Birthday Celebration”
Reviewed November 28, 2012

Every year a group of girlfriends and I, go out to dinner for our birthday. We decided to try Founding Farmers based off a recommendation from another friend. Boy were all four of us satisfied!!! Trust me that is difficult because these woman can be difficult to please. lol For starters we had the cornbread which was sweet and had corn baked inside. We were picking at the crumbs! Then we got an order of devil eggs, which im not a fan of for my own personal reasons. But i did indulge, and reaffirmed why Im not a fan of devil eggs. but my friends loved them!!! One of the members of my party had the clamchowder and she loved it. Needless to say we were feeling pretty satisfied just from the first course. Then the main course came i had the prime rib OMG it was so tender it just fell off the bone. The mac & cheese was good and the mashed potatoes were AWesome!! One of my friends had the crab cakes 2 large crab cakes (she could only eat one) but said it was fantastic and she had the string beans which were rea;;y good. Another friend had the chicken and waffles. The chicken was amazing I didnt taste the waffle because the other three woman ate it before i could lol. The sweet potatoes were super super good!!! Lastly a friend ordered the fish (cant recall which one) however she didnt complain and took a doggy bag home which is a big deal for her (so it had to be good)!!! The drinks were good if you dont drink the fresh ginger ale was really good!!! I had the cider which was good!!! I cant recall the other drinks! The wait staff was really good, super nice and accomodating. Overall we had an awesome experience!

“Amazing Thanksgiving meal!!!”
Reviewed November 28, 2012

The Thanksgiving meal was truly outstanding. We ordered Turkey, Ham and Prime Rib so we could share and it was all great. The vegetables were perfect. All the deserts were very good but the Vanilla Bean Cheesecake stole the show. And the price was very reasonable. Great experience.

We went on a busy Saturday night. We called ahead, only about an hour, and made reservations. When we arrived we were seated right away. Our drinks were perfect and everything we tried off the menu (we sampled a few small plates) was just delicious! The waiter was very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. We will definitely be going back.
