“A fine hotel in the heart of Washington.”
Reviewed April 8, 2010

This is a very fine hotel which is centrally located one block from Lafayette Square and the adjacent White House complex, consequently, many of the monuments and tourist sites are within walking distance. The room was very tastefully appointed in a natural tone motif and the furnishings were first-rate. There was a large closet outfitted with a chest of drawers and the in-room large capacity personal safe could accommodate items such as a laptop PC or SLR camera. The only drawback was the room’s location in the rear of the hotel thus the view was comprised of HVAC equipment and duct work or the rear exterior of adjacent buildings. Request a room on the front of the hotel overlooking 16th Street. The beautifully tiled bathroom was very large and outfitted with a dual basin vanity, whirlpool tub and a separate walk-in shower. The bath linens and robe were of a superior quality.

The hotel’s restaurant affiliation, Adour, is an Alain Ducasse property and prices are at a premium, for example, a full breakfast was in the range of $40.00 per person. The restaurant design is very contemporary in stark contrast to the St. Regis’ traditional architecture and decor. The hotel charges $12.95 per day for internet access.

The hotel staff was competent and professional. The Concierge staff was particularly helpful in arranging for cars, identifying neighborhood sites for Easter services and advising of activities relating to the ongoing Cherry Blossom Festival.

My husband had a business trip in DC so my 9-month old son and I joined him for leisure. The location of the St. Regis is fabulous. You are within a 5-minute walk from the White House and the park. My son and I took several walks during the day and had the opportunity to do some window shopping and have nice, quick lunches as well.

The actual St. Regis rooms left a bit to be desired. We were originally placed in a room with a stand-up shower only and as we had a baby we asked to be moved to a room with a tub. The bathroom was huge which was nice. A large vanity, large tub and decent-sized stand-up shower were all wonderful. The sleeping / living area, however, was small, dark and cramped. We opened our window and had a view of another brick wall (ick). The room was so small that my son and I only came back to the room for his naptimes.

We got room service every night and found it to be satisfactory. We didn't get a chance to try the restaurant although we did have some drinks at the bar and that was fine.

Overall, this hotel is fine to stay in for business and for location. However, if you're looking for a bright, airy room, look elsewhere!

We stayed at the St. Regis in Washington DC last weekend. Everyone was so friendly- the desk staff, bartender and the restaurant staff. Everyone had a smile and a kind word. The room was lovely and the lobby is gorgeous. We enjoyed talking with the bartender and exchanged recipes for Bloody Marys. The food in the restaurant was wonderful. They gave us a cheesy puff pastry to start, as well as an amuse bouche. Even after ordering dessert, they brought chocolates and maccaroons. The lobster appetizer was exquisite and the Iberian jamon reminded us of Spain. The manager, Ammar Samad, spent time with us as we departed and wanted to be sure everything went well with our stay. He was very kind to us and we enjoyed talking with him. We live close to DC and like to try different hotels in DC on weekends. This was such a great experience that we know we will return often.

This is a lovely antique 5-star hotel
that is one block from the White House. The rooms have been redone and are very comfortable... Every thing you would expect with a five star hotel, except for one thing. The hotel does not provide bathroom slipers, so bring your own. The cold bathroom tile is so cold, you will wish you did!

My wife and I have just returned from a wonderful stay in DC, made all the more memorable by the St Regis. The delivery of a personalised platter of handmade chocolates wishing us a Happy Anniversary was a particularly nice touch.

The hotel is in a great location for touring around DC - within easy reach of three Metro stations and approx. 10-15 mins from Reagan International (taxi fare was $15.00 incl. tip). Just one block north of the White House, the hotel is walking distance from many of the well known sights such as the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Reflecting Pool, etc.

The reception area is beautifully decorated and very comfortably furnished, and the staff very attentive and efficient. Our room was spacious and tasteful, with excellent facilities. Cleanliness is always a high priority for us and can advise that the room - and hotel - were faultless in that respect.

We did not use the bar or restaurant and are therefore unable to comment.

It is very much our intention to return to the St Regis.

I recently had the privilege of staying at this wonderful property. While St. Regis brand is known for it's wonderful accomodations and excellent service, this hotel exceeded all my expectations. We arrived at the hotel during the first day of Washinton, DC's historic snow storm and ended up stranded in the hotel for three days without any place to go or visit due to the complete shut down of the transportation system in the Capital. And, we could not have chosen a better place to be stranded in. The hotel has been elegantly restored with touch of modern ammenities in every room. From the moment we walked into the lobby, we felt like royalty as the beautiful carved ceiling and magnificent chandeliers made the place look more like a palace than a hotel. The staff were extremely curtious and hospitable and the room service offered superior quality food and service. The rooms were tastefully furnished and bathrooms were spacious and very comfortable. I particularly enjoyed the "Mirror TV" that enabled us to watch TV channels by looking at an lcd pael installed in the bathroom mirror when using the bathroom and bading. The beds and pillows were extremely comfortable too. As you might expect from any restored historic building, the elevators wdre a bit under-sized. Also, the satellite cable went out the first day and I assume it was due to the unusual whether conditions. And, when the hot water in shower did not work properly, management immediately upgraded us to a junior suite. Finally, the Adour restaurant had superb selection of delicious breakfast items and premier dining and wine selection. we were fortunate to watch the Suprball in their lounge while feasting on great food and wonderful cocktails. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone desiring royal treatment and close proximity to the white house.

I agree with all who have said that this is through and through another Starwood property...from the decor to the service, it definitely lives up to expectations. To compare it to the W, another Starwood property in DC, the St. Regis is more old school, the W is more hip and much more of a destination hotel. I also agree about the somewhat spotty service. The valets couldn't have been nicer but some of the front desk attendants were a little surly. The restaurant (an Alain Ducasse production) is truly top of the line...this is gourmet food, not just hotel food. All in all, this would be a great place to stay for business travel: they are prompt efficient, rooms are comfortable and have all the amenities you would want...including walking distance to the K street firms. If, however, you've come to DC for leisure and want to be closer to restaurants/bars/clubs, etc. you would be better off at a different property as the neighborhood around the St. Regis gets pretty quiet at night.
