“Location is everthing”

The location of this hotel if you are a tourist with a short timeframe makes it the perfect choice. Upscale, great amenities and service that is almost perfect.

A few tips.....there are no baths is some rooms (is this just a US thing?), the restaurant is damned near impossible to get into, so unless you want to suffer room service book ahead.

They are pretty gruesome about sticking to check in times...expect a wait...however once you are eventually "let in" it's pretty great.

Dear Guest,

Our signature restaurant, Adour, is very popular and advance reservations are highly recommended. Check-in is guaranteed at 3:00pm though we always try our best to accommodate early arrivals. Bathtubs are not available in each of our hotel rooms but can be requested based on availability. We appreciate your feedback and we look forward to welcoming you back the next time you are in D.C.

Warm regards,

I had drinks and lunch at the bar here and could not have been treated better. The bartender has beautiful old school manners. As I did not want to sit at his only larger table available, he politely insisted. Upon mentioning I was a vegan he mentioned that the chef would be happy to accommodate and alter the menu to that of which ever I desired. I must say, it felt like home! I would definintely recommend coming here, and it is a beautiuful location with amazing architecture and design, and for the service, definitely five star.

The St. Regis is in a perfect location. Literally The White House is just a stone's throw from the hotel. There is a Starbucks across the street and restaurants all around. The property itself needs to be renovated. The lobby couches appear stained from years of wear and tear. The restaurant, albeit fantastic, has stained carpeting throughout. The actual rooms themselves were best described as tired. We had two doubles, which seemed more like two twin beds- very odd. Both beds had wheels on them and they would easy move. The wheels made the room feel more like a nursing home. Just odd.
Would I stay here again? No. There is no wow factor here. I have stayed at other St. Regis' and this one is sadly worn down. And please know that I wanted this hotel to be great.

Dear Guest,

I am pleased that you were able to experience Washington D.C. from our remarkable location during your stay with us. I apologize that you do not feel as though the hotel lived up to St. Regis standards. The hotel was renovated at the end of 2007 in a traditional yet elegant style with contemporary touches and modern amenities throughout. The double beds are standard size doubles. We appreciate that you took the time to post your comments.

This hotel is ok. The rooms are dated and kind of loud and not very spacious. It is very traditional style, but the rooms just left something to be desired. The restaurant is pretty good, and the location is decent. However, I wouldn't go out of my way to stay here, and would recommend the Ritz if you like a more traditional hotel.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for posting your feedback regarding your stay with us. The rooms were updated and designed to match the traditional and elegant style of the historical building. Our centralized location in the heart of downtown Washington is a short distance from the White House as well as monuments and museums on the National Mall. In addition, there are three metro stops within two blocks of the hotel making it easy to get anywhere within the city.

Checked in and given a room without a bath. When we asked for a room with a bath they showed us a disabled room. This is a five star hotel and we were told that when we made the reservation we should have asked for a bath.
We had to go out to a conference when we came back we had been moved to a room on top of the entrance with a bath that you had to climb into with a step stool that was extremely noisy. If you want a good 5 star experience stay at the fairmont, park Hyatt, or ritz Carlton. They know how to treat their guests.

Room Tip: Book a room on a high floor

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments. Since our hotel is a historical building on the National Register, we have a limited amount of space and therefore not all of our hotel rooms have bathtubs. We are happy to accommodate requests for rooms with bathtubs if available.

This was the first time I returned to the St. Regis on 16th & K since renovations and I expected that the dowdy old hotel would now rise to St. Regis standards. Sadly, that's not the case.
Let's start with a positive - the lobby is clubby and ornate, and one gets a sense that many a political power play has been hatched here. But you can appreciate that without paying these rates, and frankly you that feel in many historic Washington DC hotels. Another positive, the staff are attentive, friendly and eager to please. The real negatives are the accommodations. The rooms are cramped and stuffy with fussy decor. Everything feels old, even though I don't think that is the case. I am an SPG Gold customer, so I got an upgraded room, but still by the end of the stay, I was eager to get out of there. I wish it weren't so. Next time, back to the new Washington Hotel W.

Room Tip: Insist on a room with a view of the street on a higher floor. If you don't get one, don't b...

We stayed at the St. Regis for 6 nights due to a business trip in the area. Not all of our experiences were negative so we can start with the positives. The entrance is beautiful. The restaurant was quite pricey (well over $300 for very small entrees for 2 people) but the food was certainly tasty. The sommelier found us a great and relatively unknown bottle of wine. The bar is great with some unique offerings (there was a martini with blackberries in it that was amazing - expensive $16 each - but amazing). There is the champagne toast at 6pm but you have to be there exactly at 6 - we were there 5 minutes after 6 one day and everything was done. The champagne was of pretty good quality. Unfortunately our positive experiences didn't extend to our room our overall stay.

We checked in and went up to our room. Not only was is extremely disappointing for over $450 a night (very small - old furnishings- dark and dusty and smelled heavily of cigarette smoke for a non-smoking room- and this is after renovations!) then we discovered that there was an open bottle of water next to our bed that had red lipstick on it!!! We were moved to another room that was equally disappointing and even smaller! We requested a suite if available and unfortunately nothing was available at 11:30 at night. We called a few other properties including the Hilton and Westin and they were unfortunately booked. We requested the managers assistance in getting a room at their sister property. Suddenly they had a "last minute cancellation" and they were able to accommodate us in a slightly larger 1 Bedroom rather than a studio.

This last room was much nicer. Although the regular rate was about $1250 a night and had a view of back alleys from both windows. This room I would consider staying at again but the rate is pretty outrageous for the quality you get. Even in a room this nice we had almost daily problems with housekeeping. They came into the room one time without knocking as I was coming out of the shower wearing nothing!! We complained to the manager on duty and they said they would foward the information to the housekeeping manager. Nothing else was done about it. On another occasion we came in to a mess in the bathroom including cleaning products and materials. We thought they were cleaning and would be coming back soon. Two hours later no one had appeared so we had to call again to get this resolved. These are just a few of the problems we had during our stay, including a great deal of inaccurate charges (including 2-3 parking charges of $40 each a day) and incorrect rates at check out.

We are VERY DISAPPOINTED with our stay at the St. Regis Washington. We have had better experiences at the Capitol Hilton and at the Marriott DC. Unless you are booking one of their top suites (and even there you can't get away from their housekeeping issues), I would strongly recommend staying somewhere else!!!
