“Most impressive”
Reviewed July 11, 2012

During the summer, the Marine Barracks performs a Sunset Parade at Arlington Cemetary on Tuesday evenings. It is most impressive. Our grandkids sat in awe watching the silent drill team and listening to the band. A real treat most people don't get to experience.

“Awe-filled experience”
Reviewed July 9, 2012 via mobile

How amazing to see the hard work that goes into this performance. The music was so wonderful. We got there early enough that we sat for an hour to see it, but it was well worth the wait. You will not want to miss this.

“Marines drill parade”
Reviewed June 21, 2012

Old marching band geek here---loved the bugle corps and drills!

Only "very good" because it's just off the beaten path a bit and requires hiking in oppressive heat and hauling blankets/chairs around to see it if you take the subway, etc. The airplanes flying overhead constantly from Reagan Int'l was a bit irritating after the 20th one too, especially given that 50% of it was a music performance.

“One of our trip highlights”
Reviewed June 11, 2012

We heard about this parade and planned our visit to Arlington Cemetery on a late Tuesday afternoon so we could do this afterwards. 1-1/2 to 2 hours spent at the Cemetery turned out to be a good amount of time. There was a free shuttle (on very nice busses) from the entrance of Arlington to the Iwo Jima Memorial grounds. It's a beautiful memorial in itself, and very neat to see the US Marine Drum and Bugle Corps as well as the Silent Drill Platoon perform right in front of it. The Bugle Corps was excellent both in sound and marching agility. And the Silent Drill with their gun throwing was very cool. Don't leave before the Drill PLlatoon leaves the field - they get one of the Buglers up on the Memorial to play Taps at the end. This is definately something to plan on, especially if you are going out to the cemetery anyway. Make sure you hit the bathroom at the Cemetery as the Iwo Jima Memorial only has port-o-lets and the lines to them when we were there were incredibly long!

“Every American Should See”
Reviewed May 18, 2012

I am shocked that this is just the 53rd most popular on the "Things to Do" list for D.C. It should be in the top 10. Anyone finding fault with this presentation should stick to DisneyWorld because this is the real thing. I've seen drill teams from all over the world and this is the one that sets the standard.

I suggest seeing both the Tuesday night parade at the Iwo Jima Memorial and the Friday night parade at the Marine Corps Barracks. They are very diffferent. Most memorable for me was the first time the rifle butts of all 24 of the Platoon's members hit the cement at the exact same split second in the enclosed courtyard at the 8th and Eye Barracks. You won't forget it either.
